Folding Mirrors on f-150
#221
I know this is an old post, but did you have to flash anything so the keypad and keys to work? I read in another thread somewhere that the keypad did not work anymore. Were you able to just plug it in and not do anything else?
I also noticed that you mentioned buying the DSM # FMCBB5Z14C708A, but the picture has BB5T-14C708-AF on the label. Is that DSM specific to the F150? Because when I search for the BB5T-14C708-AF, it pulls up being available for the Edge and Explorer as well.

FCancer... got some new updates on the DSM module.
So, to re-iterate, I have a 2011 F-150 Platinum with Manual Fold/telecscope TOW mirrors but powered everything else on it with memory seats.
Purchased a 2014 set of powerfolding, powertelescoping TOW mirrors from an online member here. I wanted to use the DSM to control the mirrors to make it as stock as possible as opposed to hardwiring it to make it work. It would/should retain the memory functionality since all the wiring is going through the DSM to power the mirrors and such.
Swapped the 2011 TOW mirrors for the 2014 and also the physical switch to power folding switch. Did nothing. Would not fold. Did research and the DSM needs to recognize this functionality. Looked at all the plugs on the mirror and switch, and they are filled. I assumed, all pre-wired and ready to go, but just need the DSM to know I have power folding now. Brought car to dealership.
Tech tried to fool the computer into thinking the DSM was blank and try to re-program. This is using v 92.x software with VCM2. No luck. Pulled fuse and cables, etc...
Bought a new DSM... from a previous post, somebody said it didn't work for them. I still took a stab at it as I was out of options besides manually wiring it up. Bought FMCBB5Z14C708A for roughly $160 bucks, plugged it in, and it worked!!! Didn't even have to program anything or nothing. I still have to test this out to make sure all the memory functions work, but so far so good. If this is good, I will then begin wiring up the telescoping option!!

Master Gunner
There was one person in this thread that posted his plug-in-play experience with PN BB5Z-14C708-A for his 2011 Platinum and all features worked (puddle, fold, signal, heat, memory, dim), and this is the part number that I will be using to order a DSM for my 2011 Platinum. Tasca is selling it for $144.

I was able to get the power fold working 100%.
Works very well, but I have the same problem that someone else mentioned earlier on, its that the driver side mirror is slower than the passenger side mirror (or vice versa)
Not a big deal I'm just glad that they both work.
I also had both mirror side marker lights working BUT just in the last few days they've stopped working and they blow fuse #30(front parking lamps) in the pass. side fuse box.
They were working flawlessly then I went away to work (parked the truck for 2 weeks) and when i came back they stopped working and started to blow the fuse.
I followed the instructions on the other page with the diodes and an extra wiring from the pass. side fuse panel. I've cut the extra wire i added to the markers, and my front running lights are back to working without blowing a fuse.
Maybe I can try again with the other method of using the interior lights (lights on the power lock / window panel) as a power source for the side markers

Folding Mirrors on f-150
Check for a short in your wire you ran. Maybe it got pinched in the door jam or a bad connection at a connector. Happened to me with a powerfold wire I ran. Lost all power to mirror.

I have a 2009 xlt f150 and just completed this mod today with the 2014 powerscope tow mirrors, after ensuring the power fold works i was checking other functions and found that the up/down, glass adjustment on the right mirror has stopped working. I hooked up everything correctly, from the two mirrors to the switch the only problem was that the #4 pin on the mirror switch was occupied so i pigtailed onto the current wire. the polarity in the switch is also switch for power fold, switch up motion folds, down motion unfolds. any ideas?

Excellent writeup!! Glad those Tyco connector pins worked good for you - they make for a nice factory finish to the project. I believe you used 5 of them - pins 7 & 16 for the plug for each mirror, and the wire into pin 4 for the switch. I got them to install the power telescoping tow mirrors on my truck, and I have 6 of them remaining if anybody else needs them for their installation. If you need them just PM me your address and I'll stick them in an envelope and send them your way. EDITED: The connectors are all gone! If you need some, go to Mouser.com and search for part# 1719958-1 (see post# 133 for a picture). .
