Default FX4 Pricing Estimate

So I've been scoping out an FX4 at my local dealer, the sticker price is $39395, the X-Plan price is $35856, so minus the $4000 in rebates, that puts me at ~$32000. Can you negotiate on top of the X-Plan price, or is it better to just do without it and negotiate yourself?

Also, I've read that 18-22% off sticker is about average, that's including rebates right? Theoretically I could get down to about $30728 plus TTL, but how do I convince them to scrape off $5k in addition to the rebates?

Disclaimer: the first car I've ever bought so pardon the basic questions.

You mean another 4-5K off the $30,728.00? That would be a heck off a deal, but unlikley. If you can't afford the $30k, your looking at the wrong truck. Perhaps you should be looking at an XLT or STX; it would be in your price range.

Hahah no, I think you misunderstood, I just re-read the original question and realized it didn't make sense (now edited). I mean another $5k off the $40k in addition to the $4k in rebates. The dealers I called only quoted me less than $1k under the sticker minus the rebates (about $35k).

A lot of it has to do with your credit score and credit history. If you have a high credit score 800+, if you have cash, or have if you were preapproved from your bank or a bank, then you have all the power. You can all but walk into a dealer say I will pay this much for that vehicle, within reason, and most will sell it to you.

Also, contact all the dealers in your area and make them fight for your business. Eventually one of them will given in, call you, and make you the best offer. Sometime just throwing out a low bid like 28k to see if it stick works too.

Yeah, I'd most likely be paying cash, with a trade-in worth maybe $1000. It just doesn't seem like any of the dealers I called were reasonable on the phone, they all wanted me to "come down and start putting a deal together." Which I guess is worth my time if it really makes progress but I really only have 2 dealers within ~200 miles.

Yeah most dealers don’t like to make deal over the phone but prefer you to come in and talk with them. At least, it has been my experience. They will think you are serious enough to come in to talk with them they might make you a better deal. Ouch 200 miles, that is some major driving.

Make it east and simply ask to see invoice. A good dealer will be happy to share it with you. If not go through Costco program. Work from there...forget about MSRP.

the dealer is required to show the invoice price when you do the x plan thing....i saw mine when i got my truck, from there, after the x plan and the other stuff you qualify for, going much further might not happen.

How about working with those dealers (and maybe a couple of others) by email or fax from home? You might get a great deal lined up without so much wasted driving around.

New Dodge truck's around here are going for 10k off sticker, since you have a trump card (cash) you ought to be able to get 8 to 10k off on a Ford. Tell 'em what you want to pay or walk out. They'll call you back, I sold car's and truck's about 20 yrs ago. Catch them at the end of the month also! They have a lot of markup on these vehicles.
