Default Running Board Lights

I'm thinking of adding a set of lights that light up when my running boards deploy. Does anyone know where and what color wires to tap into for this?

I'm not sure about the power running boards but I put lights on mine and tapped into the dome light circuit. I believe it was purple with a white tracer.

Look on amp research website for your year model and look at install instructions. Should tell you the door sensor wires to tap into.

Thanks for the info, the website was helpful however, I'm still unsure about which wire to tap into.

i tapped the parking lights at the lights themselves for my LED's front (3 amber) and rear (1 red 12" strip under the tailgate) so they turn on with the parking lights

if you want to run your power from there you can just tap the center wire on the back of the plug for the light - that's the "steady" circuit (since they also are your turn signals). I'm sure you could also trace that wire to the bundle under the trim piece along the door sill (just pull that trim piece up and there are all the wires). sorry, don't recall the color of either of those wires

I want these to come on when I open the door and go off when I close the door. Not sure if this is even possible.

I'm not sure if it's possible but like I said if you used the wires that I tapped into for the door sensors wouldn't that work? I know I tapped into them to activate the motors on my amp steps but should work for lights also. At least I think.

It should work, when I get them I'll check the voltage on those wires and see if it would work. I'm not sure if I would want them hooked up to the interior lights because they will stay on even after door is closed, come to think of it that might be a viable option. At any rate thanks for your help.

Was that wire under the driver side sill plate?
