First Mod Roadmasters RAS
#11
Went ahead and took a 20 mile test run tonight down I-5 and back home. It is night and day difference from the way it handled before. It is much more controlled then it was previously. Before the rear end would bounce over bumps and cause the front to wander. Now you can feel the bumps but it doesn't bounce and wander like it did before.
The Roadmaster kit made a huge difference for me. Took some pictures while out on the test drive. The trailer is almost fully loaded already for out trip in a couple days.

I wish I could run both RAS and BAGS... The bags to handle payload and tongue weight, get it off the springs, and the RAS to curb the spring wrap these puny springs suffer from. Too bad they won't fit together...

I have the Roadmaster RAS and Bilstein 5100s on my truck and I love the way it handles
It is night and day difference pulling my 23" toy hauler.
I think the RAS system is the best upgrade you can do to the rear end of a truck for towing and hauling.
I have yet to have and customers complain about the RAS system I have installed on their trucks(I run an auto shop)

That is my next add-on. I think that's a great product they came up with. Solves a multitude of issues in one shot.
Between the truck shows, product reviews and your real world experiences, I don't see a down side.

We almost bought a Lariat F350 Screw Shortbed instead of the Max Tow F150 FX4 Eco. The one reason we went with the F150 is the wife didn't feel confident driving the F350. She felt like she was going to hit something because it was to big. At least for me it is working out with the RAS mod but I was starting to get some serious regrets.

*Roadmaster RAS update after 650 mile round trip from Albany Oregon down to Patrick's Point in the Redwoods.*
I have to say I am very happy with how my truck handles with the TT hooked up. We traveled I-5 down to Hwy 199 to Hwy 101 and coming back up Hwy 101 to Hwy 38 to I-5. This was a good mix of freeway, hills, coastal wind, and winding roads. The only issue I had was a section of I-5 had really strong cross wind that was also pushing the semis around. That was a bit scary but not much you can do other than slow down and be careful.

RAS vs Supersprings...which is the better choice for towing?

FWIW, I took my RAS off because it was beyond my Ford factory alignment guy to sort out a bad rear thrust angle by tightening one RAS over the other side because one side's leaf spring grew weaker than the other side.
I miss them though on days like today towing 10,000 pounds.

FWIW, another option is a good add-a-leaf. I installed the 998lb rated kit from http://www.generalspringkc.com/Add_a...012_s/1995.htm a couple weeks ago and it has been great so far. Took the truck packed full of a couple hundred pounds of camping/fishing gear, coolers full of beer and food, my big dog and towed my drift-boat on an 8hr road trip (roundtrip). There was very little sag and no diminished ride quality. Taking another road trip (13hr roundtrip) this weekend minus the drift-boat. It is also half the price of RAS.
