So im a cyclist, and I couldn't help but think you could use some handlebar tape on this. There are lots of different colors and styles, just an idea. May be nicer in the hands.

I looked closely at the outside pillar, looking for any signs of heat/welding and I don't see any. so to have a solid steel handle, that doesn't give with 200lbs of weight and no sign of welding heat to my paint, I keep my assumption of serious backing to the pillar handle. that's the best figurin I can come up with. thx guys wanna know more just ask..... Any color you like, the whole idea is to remove the cold look and feel of a steel bar, just don't seem interior warm like a leather wrap would be. Just my thoughts.

A bunch of light coats is what you'd have to do. It'll be hard though since you'd probably need to tape and cover a fair amount of your interior not to get overspray. I like the tape idea, easier and probably cheaper than the plastidip.

Leather-like baseball bat wrap might be a good choice. Inexpensive, if it doesn't work out great.

I don't think plastidip is your answer.
What I would look into is flex seal. As much as i hate the commercials, that stuff is thicker and makes a pliable, sticky coating. You could brush it on or spray. If you sprayed it would just take some masking and taping time to protect everything.

Plastidip would be a terrible idea because it will rub/peal off in no time. That's why it's also a bad idea to dip your step bars (and people on here still don't listen and do it anyway.) Plastidip is great on surfaces that don't encounter any regular friction.
