Mounted my 30" SR2 tonight.
It's stupid bright, I love it. I felt like I couldn't see at all when I turned them off after driving with them on a while.
I still need to wire it properly. It's all loose under the hood and the switch wire is stretched from under the hood and through the door seal into the cab. Just so I could play with it, ya know.

Looks beautiful, extremely clean install!

I've been thinking about getting flush mounts also, I'm wondering if anyone has thought about, or tried mounting them higher up on the tailgate, where you would have access to the back in the latch access panel. I'm not sure if it would be too tight in there or not, but I think it could make for a better reverse light being higher off the ground, and would definitely make for a better FU light if it were controlled on a switch also.

I had no issue cutting into the bumper caps, but cutting into that tailgate seems crazy to me.
If you still want some light up high, maybe look into a headache style rack and mount some Rigid duallys up there.
