I believe I've got it figured out, just got to get a role of wire and get it through the headliner.

Last question, I've cut out that first sunglass holder just like you did it. How did you secure the monitor in there tho? I haven't decided what is going to be the best way to do this.

Thanks man!

I removed the sun visors so I could pull the front of the roof liner down because I had the same issue. I then used a fish tape and started feeding it from the back of the cab toward the front. this way, with the front of the liner down, its easier to find the fish tape out the front, rather than finding it in the rear corner. Come to think of it, I think the cable got run along the drivers side and accross to the sunglass holder. Why I did that was just because thats the way the fish tape ran over the roof liner.

I did run the power for the monitor to the reverse light, but my video cable had an extra wire in it. So I used that to get my power back to the camera.

About securing the camera, at first, I didn't. I just pulled it down and hung it accross the sunglass holder...like so....

Basically I only need it for backing into my trailer. I find my backup sensors are good enough for day to day backing.

But what I have done now is I used velcro. I just figured out exactly where I wanted the monitor placed Then I stuck velcro in that spot. Did the same on the monitor side and done. That way, if I ever need to move the monitor, I can just grab and pull it out.

Sorry I don't have any pics of the monitor secured with velcro. But you get the point...

Hope this helps ya.

This is how I did mine:
I used coat hanger to fish video and power wires from sunglasses holder to driver side a pillar and routed the cables way down to the floor level then run the wires in the existing cable tray to the back. There is a grommet under the cable tray which u can route the cable to the outside. This is another option other than run through headliner. I also used a fuse tap to power the monitor (hot when truck is on) instead of from backup light. Main reason is there is no delay to start monitor when put in reverse gear and my monitor goes into black screen when there's no signal.

My monitor came doubled side 3m glue, u should be able to find it from homedepot.

Hope this helps.

Good deal. I bought the exact same setup as you did. That video cable with a red wire hanging out of both ends, is that what you used to run power from monitor to reverse lights?

Yes, the red wire runs from the switched 12 v at the reverse light. And the ground wire for the camera I just crimped a small ring lug onto the ground wire for the camera and connected it to a screw up in the overhead that was screwed into the chassis/roof of the truck.

BTW, mine is still working great. Even with the rain, snow, salt, freezing/cold weather here. Just gotta wipe it off every so often to clear off the road grime...

Thanks to you, FordEver, I finished this mod today. Same parts, same setup. I, like you, only need it for backing into the trailer, but it was well worth my time to do this. Your instructions made this a straightforward install. Thanks again!

Glad it is working well for you. Definately worth the few bucks and few hours work for the install

Thanx for the words. And you are welcome for any small part that I may have played by posting my install info.....

I had the plate camera and didnt like the look so I just put mine in the tailgate and love the look. I have trailer breaks so I put it on the right side and it's not bad had to do a little cutting behind the dash. Glad to see this page and helped me see how easy it was. Didn't have to buy an adapter for the rca cord. had just enough to fit with about 3 inches to spare.
