I don't have an alarm, but I thought I had a blinking light on the gauge cluster in the shape of a lock just for theft deterrent on my 2010, ill have to double check. Guess its not there on the 11s anymore. I've had And know other people who have had a variety of vehicle which actually had no alarm but had a blinking light on top of the dash or back of mirror which is the equivalent of sticking the sign in your yard when you don't actually have an alarm.

I do understand what you guys are saying and asking for, I was just pointing out to you that the lights on other vehicles you were talking about does not mean they have an actual alarm. Chevy and other manufacturers put the light on the dash with no alarm for years.

I have a 2011 Lariat that did not come with anything except the keyless remote. I did not want to have another key fob to carry around so I went with OEM alarm and had dealer install it for me. It uses the same key fob that came with your vehicle which is great, but make sure your dealer knows how to install it properly. I have taken it back to them twice. The first installer did not install the red security led which by the manual is how you can tell what mode you are in during programming and during operation if the alarm has been set off. The problem that they cannot resolve is why the horn continually honks while I use my remote start... I have messed with the sensitivity myself (easy to do) to get it to stop, but didn't really do much. I had a Viper system installed on my wifes Armada by Best Buy (only because Nick is one of the best installers in the area) and her remote start/alarm works great so IMO if you don't mind the additional key fob I would have a Viper alarm professionally installed. I was going to do the install, but there are by-pass modules and lots of adjustments that they had to make to allow everything to work seamlessly together that I could not have completed without help.

why did they not program the alarm fab to unlock the doors? theres no reason you should ever need two fabs. I had a viper remote start 12 years ago that unlocked the doors, and I have an Astro Start aftermarket remote start now that has 10X the range of the factory one and all I have is the aftermarket fab on my keys, it does every function the factory fab does, but with 10X the range.

I think maybe you misunderstood. You would have two key fobs because you will have ford key/fob and viper alarm key fob for alarm and remote start. Sorry about the confusion.

Maybe you misunderstood, the viper key Fab should do everything the factory one does, with a longer range. Why are you carrying both?

What year is your truck? He's talking about the 2011's and how the key is combined with the fob all into one (as where other years have the key and a separate fob that has the lock/unlock buttons).

I have a 2011 as well with key and keyless fob as one unit. I just hate having more than one fob when one should be able to do everything but guess I can't have my cake and eat it too. In fact the remote start the dealer put on is a separate fob too so I should have went with the viper system in the end.

I have my viper alarm/remote start system that I took out of my old truck before I traded it in. I'm debating whether I want to install it or not. It is a hassle having the original key/fob and then adding another big fob to my key chain lol. In the end, i'll probably just suck it up and install the viper system since the alarm is way better than ford's and the remote start's range is 1 mile.

If you are worried about a blinking light or a sticker saying it has an alarm, believe it or not you can get both without buying an alarm. And what's wrong with flashing lights and honking horn, sounds like and alarm letting you know it's been broke into to me. Or is the siren better? My friend once had an alarm that was a woman's voice screaming for help, and it sure as hell got more attention than horns or sirens. Some alarms have keyfobs that go warn you when you car is being tampered with, if you are within range of the car.
