Well I'll be damned! I thought the 2nd push of the button and horn chirp activated the factory alarm. After reading this post I tested this. Rolled down the window, shut the door and hit the remote twice to get the horn chirp. Reached inside and opened the door and NOTHING!

Maybe there is a flash on the computer to activate this?

Yeah, the 2011 F150 have the "perimeter alarm" -- e.g. roll down a window and then lock the truck and wait about 20 seconds for the system to arm. If you then open the door, you'll hear the chime going off and you have 10-15 seconds(?) before the truck horn + lights start to go off. There is some info about this in the 2011 Owner's Guide.

It is good the 2011s have this. A truck with no trunk or locking storage really needs a good perimeter alarm standard.

Default There IS the ignition kill if you don't have the coded key...

From the Manual:

SECURILOCK PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
SecuriLock passive anti-theft system is an engine immobilization
system. This system is designed to help prevent the engine from being
started unless a coded key programmed to your vehicle is used. The
use of the wrong type of coded key may lead to a “no-start” condition.

I have a 2011 FX2 and it has nothing in terms of honking the horn or flashing the lights unless I hit panic on the remote..

I'm installing a Viper 5901 right now so I have some protection.

I have to update the post above... I was incorrect!

SOME 2011's did get equipped with what Ford calls a "Content Alarm". It is usually already activated on the higher optioned trucks.

If not, It can be enabled with the IDS. (Or disabled)

It is basically a noise maker and light flasher if someone gains entry into the truck without unlocking the truck. It arms itself between 20 to 30 seconds after you lock the truck with the remote or after the last door has been shut.

I installed a Viper in my truck and the first time I disarmed the viper and went to get in my truck the LCD said "Start the engine within 20 seconds to disarm the alarm" it begins to beep repeatedly faster and faster until the 20 seconds expires and all hell breaks loose... Horn honks, lights flash etc etc

So I do have the content alarm... Now I have to either have it deactivated by the dealer or make a series of relays to trigger the system to disarm it when I disarm the Viper... Uhg LoL

As somebody else posted already....you can tell if you have it activated by testing it this way...

Close all doors, leave a window open, lock truck with remote and wait 30 seconds.... Reach in and open the door with the inside handle, NOT unlocking it ... When the door opens the LCD will display the above message if your truck has it. :-)

It would be a lot easier to tell if our trucks had alarms if Ford provided the usual red flashing warning LED on the dash like every other alarmed vehicle in the world has. Not that vehicle alarms are all that effective in public parking lots, but they do have a deterrent effect in your driveway or parked on a residential street and it would be nice to warn away the meth-heads before they damage the truck trying to break in for coins.

Those lights are not alarms, They are just a blinking light for theft deterrent. Thieves figured it out years ago, I think now there's a light on the guage cluster that blinks.

I've got the factory alarm, no blinking light, as others have reported as well. All of my previous vehicles with alarms had a light. Houses with alarms have little signs out front. It's useful to let the bad guys know you have some form of theft deterrent before they have to break something to find out.

I have a 2011 with the factory passive alarm (press lock twice and it honks). I have a viper alarm system that I took from my other truck before I traded it in and I wanna put it in my f150. Do I have to disable the factory alarm before I install the viper system?
