I just bought (ordered) a new 2015 F-150 for one main reason (outside of being a Ford man and always WANTING a new truck rather than NEED)... cost to repair rust on both sides of the bed of current truck.

As of this post, I have a 2009 F-150 STX 2wd Reg cab. It is my baby and I keep it extremely clean, inside and out. The underside and wheel-wells are washed out AT LEAST every 2 weeks if not every week. Along with it being ready for a new set of rubber, I noticed some rust/paint bubbles on the drivers side bed fender. I went to my trusted body guy who give me 2 options (cut it out and stop whats rusting now only or skin the whole side of the bed to stop future rust). His rough estimate (just off the top of his head without actually looking up costs of anything) was $4500 for the better of the 2 options vs $1000 to go the "cut out" method. While trying to decide what to do (about a week to 10 days) the other side started doing the exact same thing. That made my decision easy as I didn't want to dump $9000-$10,000 into a 6 year old truck.

I was curious if anybody else has seen this issue? Body guy said he has fixed several of the 09-14 generation F-150's with this issue. He thinks its a design flaw where the metal comes together on the bed (in that spot) and stuff (salt) is getting in between and there is no way to keep it washed out. I am in Central Ohio for reference (weather - salt).

I'm pretty diligent in cleaning and washing my truck, here in the NE salt and rust is an issue. I picked up a few cans of fluid film and shot them in the door seams, fender wells and places where the body rust tends to occur. I'll see how it holds up. That's in addition to wire brush and rattle can every fall and spring.

I had some rust forming on my 2009. On the rear fenders/wheel wells... I sanded it down and put some rust-oleum primer on top. That was the beginning of last winter. And It seems fine now. Depends how deep your rust is... If it's surface rust you could always sand it down and do it yourself.. However if it was any where else besides the wheel well/fender I wouldn't do it... It was easy for me to just sand that down because you can't notice it was touched up. I plan on buying some Undercoating solution from Rust-Oleum as well and just spraying all under my fenders/wheel wells.

I've got the same issue and same truck 2wd reg cab. I have rust issues both sides right above the rear tire, do you have pictures, I fixed mine for around 300 with oem flairs and por-15
