I just ordered the Router Bit, and a pair of bullrings for the rear only! Anyone know if the bit will work with a RotoZip?

The Ford Shorty specific bull rings are available now. Just saw it this morning when I was surfing, and I couldn't help but order a matching pair!

Thanks for the heads up. Please keep us posted on the install process. Did you also buy the router bit, or are you planning to cut out the pockets on your own?

I would guess that bullringusa is going to score pretty well with this one. What it took was a custom router bit and then a finishing flange for the standard bullring.

Looking at the site, it's ~$66 for four stakes and ~$17 for the router bit (have a router and don't need their advertised Makita), plus s/h and tax. So under $100, but not into the "Best mods under $50" thread.

Love the BullRings on my 6.5 and cannot understand why Ford didn't give caps with removable stake covers on the 5.5. The only time I ever use the factory (low) rings is when toting something dinky like a propane tank. Everything else is the BullRings. Some mods are cool, but of questionable utility. This is not one of those. So, the one thing s-i-l didn't get on his 5.5, now he gets. Where's my router?

I agree 100%. I also thing they're solving another problem with the short-bed caps. Many on the Raptor forum who did the "blind" cut revealed the caps have an air gap between the metal stake pocket on the bed, and the actual plastic cover. Some have stuffed some shims/filler in there to firm things up, but it looks like Bullring specifically designed this "flush mount" system to compensate for the extra space there. So solves more than just the problem of locating the pocket, it also solves the shortcoming of the gap in trying to use one of their other standard ring products.

Interesting thread, as I'm dealing with the infamous "stake pocket on 5.5' bed" issue now (and I've read pretty much all of the other related threads).

Question for TruckTalk - have you confirmed - for certain - the pocket locations (or existence) on a 2001 Screw?

I can only partially lift the rail cap (as I'm afraid it'll break) - but I can fairly clearly see the first 4-5" at the front (cab) end...and see no pocket.

Unfortunately, I have a Duraliner bed liner, so I can't really determine anything from looking at it from the inside.

(I'll try to post some pics tonite).

Again - just want to make sure that BullRing has confirmed that this installation (excellent video's by the way) will work on a 2001 Screw before I purchase and start drilling.

Thanx!

I bought the router bit too. Works like a charm. I took pics & I'll start my own thread to share.

For those without a router, you can still install these using the special router bit and a hand drill. I used the fastest (rpm) hand-drill I had and it worked just fine. Granted the bit dances around a little until the bearings come to rest on the stake-pocket lip (under the plastic). Once that happens, the bit cut the same hole that any high-quality router would cut. It's not pretty, but it works just fine
