Thanks guys. To play devils advocate, the rated towing capacity is a little higher in the Chevy, with payload being within 100 pounds of each other.

Although the 5.0 does have 45 more torques than the 5.3.

I miss the AWD, and the gas mileage of the GMC though. For piece of mind in the winter it was awesome.
Yeah Chevys are tough in off road/slippery conditions. My buddies hummer with 37s got stuck one day we got 3 f150s(1 stock 1 with 33s and 1 with 35s) 1 f250(also with 37s) and a ranger with a lift and 35s stuck trying to tow him out, it looked like a truck graveyard. We called our buddy in his Chevy with 35s he pulled everyone of us out then drove through the hole again to prove his point.

If you want a tough reliable towing engine get a 5.4 with a 6speed.

I dont know how much room there is in regular cab trucks but my screw f150 has way more interior room than my sister inlaws 2011 silverado. I believe the regular cab 5.0 also does very well for economy, with most owners repOrting over 20 on the highway in that config. While being fairly efficient, they are also extremely quick and powerful. The 5.3 is way behind in that reguard. Drive both and pick the one that suits you best.

To the Poster who claims his chevy 6.0 returned better mpg than his ecoboost, either you or my inlaws have something wrong cuz their 6.0 wont crack 14 highway while my ecoboost does 19 regularly.

My last truck was a 2006 1500 Silverado with the 5.3. I really had no complaints with that truck, other than the 2 sets of plug wires and a few other things it required in 130K miles. Fuel economy was decent and the power was acceptable. Never had any major mechanical issues with it, though the T-Case solenoid and motor had to be replaced for the 4X4 system.

I chose the F-150 this time because the GM simply can't compete...on ANY level. The interior isn't even in the same league, the exterior is dated, the technology is WAY behind the ford, the tranny doesn't seem as nice, and every 4X4 GM vehicle I've owned has had electronic transfer case issues. If you never drive the Ford, you'll probably be satisfied with the GM, though.

+1

I drive a chevy ext cab 4x4 with a 5.3 for work. That thing is a dog on gas. My 5.4 4x4 screw can beat it in fuel comsumption by at least 25% (Regular city and highway drving). As well a buddy of mine has a chev 4x4 4.8 crew and he can't come close to my gas mileage either.

My boss has a chevy crew with a 6 liter..... don't even wanna go there for gas comsumption.

To the OP... you are on a Ford site, so you would expect to see F150's praised more than bashed. But I have driven everything in 1/2 ton P/U. I realize you are lookain ata 5.0 and I have a 5.4, but my F-150 is by far a better product overall. So I would assume the 2011 and up are even better still.

But if you want a Silverado.... fill your boots. I hope you will be happy with it

I'm a gm guy through and through. I wanted to keep my tow rig a gm as well but after weeks of testing everything that had wheels and a motor, ford simply out gunned the competition. I reasserted my gm abandonment a couple weeks ago when I had a 2012 5.3 1500 silverado rental then a 2012 6.6 2500 Chevy. Both of those trucks were absolute jokes in the interior, comfort, power, and fuel economy departments. I'm still glad I went with the 2011 Ford. The the 5.0 will be leaps and bounds better than the 5.3.

One thing keeps me away from GM products...bailout. I want to deal with a company that can stand on their own two feet and compete on a level playing field. I resent the fact that my tax money was spent to keep GM afloat.

I think of this when I see the same Chevy Volt sitting on the dealer's lot for the past 6 months. This was a bad business decision forced upon GM...what else is being forced down their throats?

Not to get political (too late) but does anyone recall the Ford ad that eluded to the GM bailout? That ad lasted about two days before someone at Ford got a call from the White House. Ford was forced to pull the truthful and enlightening ad or face the wrath of the government.

I feel better now.

Ford was silently bailed out by MGM investment, get over it. every major brand has been bailed out or bankrupt one time or another, including ford

You are over it, I am not. The last time I checked, Ford did not beg for any of my tax dollars. When GM pays back the remainder of its debt, I may have a different point of view.
