Using a square set at a right angle with the driver side front door open, I'm getting right at 5 inches of step.

As a comparison, can someone measure the same way to see where the factory offset is?

Hope this helps

sooo... i finally got started on that today...
i have the same brackets as "kmaximus". I originally bought the angle iron shown in the 1st post, but obviously it didnt work... so I went back and got 2 x 3 foot lengths of 1/4" x 1" wide flat steel.
I cut 8 pieces, 7-1/4" long and drilled 2 holes in each as shown (4 of each):

The closest holes are 3" c-c, the furthest 6-1/8" (double-check before you drill!!). Of course you can drill the holes lined up and on center too

here is what it looks like on the step upside down:

Before (iPhone against the F150 emblem, driver side):

After (iPhone against the emblem, passenger side):

I broke a bolt and the hardware store closed at 6, so i'll do the driver side another time.

I'll probably replace the plastic "nuts" with an actual nut+washer, and the stock bolts on the running boards with longer ones. with the 1/4" steel, the stock bolts do not seem to grab enough thread to be solid. I jumped on the step a few times, the whole truck bounces but it seems strong enough!

the distance door / edge of step before is about 2-1/4", after is close to 5".

Thanks! As long as you dont look too closely, it's not too bad but my cuts are not straight, holes are not centered nor lined up... But it works and will get covered in road sh*t anyway still gotta pass the "wife test". (And no i'm not talking about her stepping on it! But she's a lot more picky than I am!)

Bringing this thread back...I can't believe more folks aren't complainin' about how little stepping area the factory (non-powered) steps provide!

I was just about ready to shell out $1000 for the AMP, but I personally think the factory non-powered steps make the truck look 'tougher'.

I bet if someone could come out with a bracket mod that allows some adjustability in how much the step sticks out AND the lowering height, you could easily sell a TON of them... forget shelling out $1k and figuring out what to do with your factory steps (not to mention tapping into your wiring for power, etc...)--~$100 powder coated bracket and you'd be good to go!

I've never though my boards were inadequate....but Now I do. I'm doing this. Wish I had caught this thread the first time around. Should help keep door dings off the doors too.,

Anyone thought of just lowering them down a bit? I was looking at it today and figured lowering would take it down enough from the body to allow for more boot room. In this case I think lowering a little will go a long way. We have a 250 at my work and the ones on there are lower from the body. This particular 250 isn't really taller than my 150 either. It might be easier than extending them. What's your opinion good bad or indifferent?

Does the 250 have the same mounting as our 150's?

Hmmm...your probably right, that just lowering them a bit would work, rather than sticking it out more...if the 250's have the same mounting point (or method of mounting) then that bracket could be used! Brilliant! I got a buddy w/ a 250, I'll have to check with him...
