Default Extension Brackets for Running Boards install

Last winter I had a heck of a time with the Running Boards on my Larait. The are in too close to the truck to allow me to get good footing on them especially with some snow and ice build up on them and work/snow boots on. So I didn't spend the money on Amp Research running boards but instead spent about $20 and moved the running board out a little. this is the before picture....and below that is the picture of the brackets that I made. I used 1/8" X 1 1/2" angle iron that I picked up at Lowes/Home Depot. The brackets are 6" long, (3) 11/32" holes spaced evenly at 1 15/16" and on centerline of angle iron.

It was pretty simple to remove the running boards... just a 13mm socket. here is a picture of the OEM brackets holding the running board in place. So remove the 8 nuts and lift the running board off and set it aside (where it wont get scratched). Install the bracket extensions onto the OEM brackets and use a 1/4-20 X 1" bolt and locknut to hold it in place. Then just put the running board back in place.

ANd this is the after installation picture of the running board. It is solid, supports my 300+ pounds and sticks out just far enough that i can get a full foot on it. Also a picture of underside of running board brackets.

Man, I really like good simple solutions and you really have one there. Well done and glad it works out for you. Might not work for everyone, but it is a cool fix.

Thanks so much for posting this write up, I've cut 2 of mine at this point and will be finishing up the other 2 tomorrow.

The 2012 FX running boards have different mounting holes on the bottom so sadly I can't follow your great example to the letter but it will be close. I'll post pics once I have the last one cut

You should build more and sell them as kits on EBay. I would probably buy one since I don't have access to the right tools to make them myself.
