Default Engine specs: 5.0 and 5.4

So with the specs on the new engines out, I guess people will have to decide between the old vs. the new.

5.0: aluminum block, 360 hp @ 5500 rpm and 380 ft/lbs @ 4250. Weighs 70lbs less because of aluminum block. Maximum towing is 9,800 lbs.

5.4: iron block, 310 hp @ 5000 and 365 ft/lbs @ 3500. Maximum towing (with max tow on supercrew) is 11,200 lbs.

Did anyone see the miles/gallon estimates on the new 5.0? I only saw them described as "class leading."

My source on the Coyote: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/AllNew....html?x=0&.v=1

This is an exciting time for Ford!

I would like to know what is the difference in weight between the two engines, since the 5.0 block is aluminum vs the iron block of the 5.4.

Good point and since the displacement difference is only .4 (25 CID) and yet we get more hp and torque even though we need more rpm to do it then I would venture to guess the weight difference is substantial but I couldn't calculate by how much.

Ford's press release says the 5.0 provides a 70lbs weight savings because of the aluminum block.

Like the new figures of the 5.0L, but hate the fact the peak power comes in 500rpms higher for hp and 750rpms higher for the lb-ft. Really would like to see the torque curve. Also disappointed the tow rating has decreased for the 5.0L compared to the 5.4L. Wonder why?

According to the articles on it, while it does have a higher power rating, you need to view it as a replacement to the 4.6 and not the 5.4. The 3.5 EB and 6.2 are going to be the heavy haulers with both of them rated to pull 11,300 lbs. Pickuptrucks.com said the rumored power on the 3.5 EB is around 400/400.

This I did know, since I posted the pickuptrucks.com article in another thread on here.

My problem with the 6.2L is, what are the mpgs (which truly don't matter much) and why can I only have it in Lariat and up models? What about the people that want an XLT, but want the heavy hauling ability? This will make them upgrade to leather and options they may not need or want. At least the 5.4L was offered as an upgrade in practically every package. So to me, the 5.0L is a replacement for the 5.4L all the way up to the XLT, then and only then is the 6.2L considered the 5.4L replacement.

Only when running E85, otherwise it's only 365lb-ft.
