If you have to get out of somewhere, yeah maybe. I'd much prefer an open diff or limited slip in the snow for regular driving. I'm not talking about having fun in the snow. You lose it on ice or packed snow with the locker on, its much harder to correct.

Default Question

I'd like to hear from someone who has used the 2wd version of the electronic locking diff. Is it pushbutton activated? Does it work well if you're trying to climb a straight hill in the snow? Does it work well for pulling a boat up a wet ramp?

Have a friend that has one and he wishes he had just got 4x4. He can't go anywhere if its icy, gets stuck outside his garage on city street. Loves the truck otherwise. Just can't lock in if it is really icy. It mostly just goes around in a circle until it hits something.

Well, nobody has answered the OP's question regarding how the the rear locking diff is employed on his 2012 2wd model. Does it have a switch where the 4wd **** usually is?

Same thing will happen in 4wd too if all four wheels are on the ice. You may be able to use 4 low to roll it off with no throttle input (done this with my Jeep before), but if you're going up or down a steep hill and don't have studded tires, you're still going to slide all over the place.

I think everyone forgets about the the second gear option. Ford's 2nd selection allows for starting in 2nd gear. In the manual it states this is used for taking off in limited traction situations, i have utilized this function on several occasions and it works like a champ!

You can also start in third gear, I guess that's be even better maybe. Never tried it for traction issues though.

I'm having a bit of panic, I guess I assumed the elock option was just "better" than limited slip and I just ordered a 2012 4x4 with 3.73/elock rear.

I drive a lot in snow/ice and also tow a boat up some ramps. I want stability and traction, but am not doing off-roading. I don't want to be pushing switches or buttons, I want the thing to engage traction control when needed.

Did I make the wrong choice? Should I go back and order the limited slip instead???

Correct me if I'm wrong but u made a great choice. With the fx4 you have both limited slip and the locker. The locker is only engaged when u pull out on the ****
