"And it is not for snow"
Those locking differentials kick butt on snow. I was with one of my customers, snow up to his front bumper, kicked in the locking differential, and that thing chewed through snow.

Cool option on the 2012. I think what they mean by snow is you don't want to be trying to make corners with it on, your rear end would be all over the place.....ever driven a full posi rear end? Tons of fun, not the most practical

You shouldn't be going 55 on ice anyway.
I get what you're saying though. For those that don't understand, with an open rear, if you apply too much throttle, only one tire spins, which means the other tire is holding the ground for left/right movement of the rear. If the rear is locked, and you apply too much throttle, both tires spin and typically when this happens, you fishtail very easily. Typically you end up in the ditch...

I've lived in Wisconsin all my life... I've got plenty of experience driving in bad weather...55 on ice is stupid, i don't care how much perceived 'skill' you think you have.

luckily also, ford has considered this as the locker will disengage automatically at speeds above 35mph and re-engage once you drop back below 25mph (those may not be exactly the correct speeds but it's close).
so, you will never be driving at 55mph locked and trying to take a turn. now, it could make for some funny low speed turning at an intersection - that is no doubt. but it's not going to be an issue on the highway as far as snow driving.
the new trucks also have amazing 1 wheel spin control - even with the tcs system turned off (i tested this in sand over the weekend offroad). if you can't get this truck moving with 4wd and the traction features it has it must be pretty damn nasty out! haha
