Just like the title says. Does anyone have an ecoboost with a winch? I assume it is not possible to mount a hidden winch, but what options are available for me? Also if you do have a winch, did it raise any of your temp gauges after doing so?

Great forum, I purchased my truck last week after reading a lot on this forum. I really like the support and ideas that everyone has.

US a portable removable winch order a front reciever hitch so it is off except when you need it. Make sure winch is rated for about 9000 pounds or more. Then order the reciever mount hitch kit. Several people make them but order a kit that has handles on it to make moving the winch easlier....

That's what I was going to say. Front hitch with winch mount. Removable and wont restrict air flow.

Yes thanks I was thinking about that but I don't know where the cut in the bumper would be. I had a 2000 F150 years ago with that set up and it looked ok, The bumper had to be cut for the reciever, I assume its the same. Does anyone have pictures of a 09 or newer with the front reciever?

thanks for the pic, it looks low in the front, but I might be stuck with this or nothing. Hopefully there is someone out there that has a better idea!

Winches restrict air flow so much I dare say the dealer will start every service visit with "if you have a problem with your engine and we can even remotley blame the air restriction we will".. Yes my winch sits low in the front however I dont drive with it on so not much of a problem. I can mount in rear hitch so I have a backup plan if stuck deep in the front. ... Im not drunk yet, but Garlic festival seems to start early at times.. And thanks for the pic I forgot I took it, and gee dont it look good...lol....

I had to have a winch and was able to do it by installing a receiver hitch on the front of truck. I also mounted another receiver in the bed of truck to store the winch. I can now attach winch to pull either forwards or backwards as delima requires. Its a pain in the butt; but, i was told that was the only option. I can not ride with the winch attached to the front receiver because I was told it would void the warranty on the motor. Had I been told about this restriction before I bought the truck, I probably would have gotten the 8 cylinder motor. It is hard for me to believe that you would sell a 4 wheel drive truck that you cant put a brush guard and winch on the front. Now that I have spent all that money, someone will come up with something that works.

The only thing that a hidden winch would do is reduce airflow through the intercooler. That has nothing to do with the heating/cooling of the engine and it could not cause engine damage. The ONLY thing that the intercooler does is cool the in coming air from the air intake going into the turbo. At the worst, blocking airflow would raise intake temperatures to the ambient air temperature. By doing this you would loose maybe 5 to 10 horsepower. Maybe.


I just went and looked at my truck, and man! there is a lot of space in between the bumper and the engine.

Hey Gilroy, why didn't you hide your winch inside your bumper? It looks like you have a V8. It would sit below your radiator.
