Default Ecoboost w/ 3.15 vs 5.0 w/ 3.31

What's your thoughts on this guys? I'm getting ready to order a XLT 2wd screw and not exactly 100% sure which engine I want to go with. The truck will mainly just be a family hauler with some light towing (small utility trailer or 19' boat) and gas mileage is my main concern. So I'm down to the EB w/ 3.15 or 5.0 w/ 3.31. I have taken a test drive in the EB w/ 3.15 and I'm very impressed with the power it has at that ratio. Just kind of concerned about all the newer technology in the EB and I love the sound of a V8. Right now I'm an EB lean until I go drive the 5.0. Thoughts???

I just Picked up a 2011 Eco-boost after trading in my trusty 2007 5.4, test drove the 6.2 the new 5.0 and the 3.5EB, must say I was very impressed with the EB, and to be honest the 5.0 felt slow and sluggish at lower rpms IMO....
Best thing you can do is go and test drive the 5.0 with the same gear and the same body that you rode the EB and decide for your self, either way good luck.

Ditto experience of gixxer... drive the 5.0 and compare oranges to oranges.. same driveline and same rear end. The EB sold me. I bought the EB with 3.55. I never drove the 3.15 but I can imagine it would only be better mpg and a little peppier maybe. The 5.0 seemed boggy to me, but the AC was on full blast ( temp was over 100 when I was testing ) and I didn't really stomp on it either... plus it was a 4x4.

You can't go wrong with any of them. But compare engine to engine and ratio to ratio.. it's not fair to compare a 3.15 to a 3.55 in differnt engines... IMO

Good luck

go 5.0 if your gonna do hauling. you will get better mileage hauling and towing compared to an ecoboost in the same situation.

Very true statement but I do not know of anyone that towed 24/7. The EB saves loads of cash on gas between hauls so it averages out to be far better than the 5.0.
