Noticed yesterday at cold start. It felt like I had no brakes at all until about a minute after starting, the normal brake pedal feel came back. It's going into the dealer this morning. I too got the letter about the possible vacuum pump failure.

This is the reply I received from the shop foreman at Advantage Ford (Calgary) today. This is because I chose to do the repair myself instead of paying the dealership to do it. My pump was cracked right across the metal part. What a joke!!

Ihave spoken to the Ford Escalated Handling Team as well as our Recall Hotline. We are unable to process a refund for this component as it does not meetWarranty and Policy criteria on required key points:
  • Repair was not performed at an Authorized Dealer or Certified Repairshop(emergency repairs allowed if performed by certified Repair Shop –journeyman technician)
  • Repair Order must include vehicle identification and mileage
  • Over the counter sale not considered an “Emergency Repair”
Because the vehicle did not have an actualRepair Order we cannot confirm the vehicle/mileage/qualification of repairingtechnician and are unable to pursue this claim any further. The 15N05 CustomerSatisfaction Extended Coverage will remain in effect as stated in the recallnotice you have received. For any additional questions/concerns pleasecall 1-888-222-7814.

This is the reply I got from Ford Customer Service (or lack thereof).

I sent them a copy of the receipt which the dealership claimed I did not have and copies of the pump with a crack through it.

FORD IS TRULY PATHETIC!

Thank you for replyingto my email in regards to the vacuum pump reimbursement.

Please note, due to the prevalence of computer viruses, Ford ofCanada has adopted a policy of not opening any e-mail attachments received fromexternal sources. I would not be able to open the attachment that you sent us Iam sorry.

The guidelines for reimbursement and the process are not donethrough us but through the dealer and the warranty department. Once a denial of reimbursement has been madethere is no one within Ford of Canada that can overturn that decision. For further explanation, you would need tospeak to the service department as they are the ones that process thereimbursement claims.

I am truly sorry that we cannot meet yourexpectations in this instance.

Thank you for contacting Ford ofCanada.

Sincerely,

Diana S.

Does anyone know if Ford has made any changes to the pump? My pump is failing again and the thought of just inserting another piece of junk is not sitting well

So you're upset that Ford won't reimburse you for the pump because you installed it yourself? You failed to meet the guidelines. It would be like me replacing my IWE's and wanting them to pay for the parts. Not gonna happen.

I highly doubt they didn't update the pump. That would make absolutely no sense to install faulty pumps after a recall.

I replaced a clockspring that was later recalled. Chrysler reimbersed me for the part.
Not the labor.

Ford covered parts cost on mine. Did the repair myself. My dealer "diagnosed" the issue which is why it was covered

I went by the dealer and they handed me my refund check today also.
I had taken truck in to a dealer in 2013 and was told no problem found. In 2015 truck nearly hit someone in grocery parking lot so I ordered it from Amazon from a ford superstore and installed it myself. Then I kept the old one all this time waiting for this recall.
Turned in the letter I was sent and copies of the receipt showing it was a Ford part and was told wait about three weeks. Went to dealer today and check was cut on the spot for the part reimbursement. I never even tryed for the labor. I was happy getting the 395 bucks back!
If I had gotten turned down, my next option was reinstalling that original one and taking it right back down for their replacement and then selling you guys one at a "used" price!
