So I pulled the line and verified that it does suck (vacuum). I pulled the motor apart on the assembly and put oil in the pump itself. I think the loud noise is actually the inboard motor bearing and not the actual pump. The motor has 4 sets of brushes for a long long life but the bearings internally seem to be failing. I tried putting quite a bit of oil between the surface plate after unscrewing the motor housing too. Unfortunately I did not want to pry to hard between these surfaces to separate the pump from the motor as I don't want to shell out $435 right now for a new pump. But when the time comes or hopefully someone else has one fail that they keep the old parts and tear it down. You can't open the pump but you can remove the motor I believe.

5 plugs were .44-.45, one plug was .43. this was at 64k.

runs much better now. too bad I tried to tell the dealer at least three times in the last year it was a problem. Same old song and dance each time.

So after having it "checked" and no issues reported...
This week had to replace the emergency brake cable, rear shoes, rear brake pads and still have a horrible, intermitent squeak coming from the front of the car.

When they were addressing my issues I told them... please verify that the pump is working 100%... what a surprise... blowing the fuse. They want $750 to replace them... after getting nailed for the brake work too ($800)

Now the question does anyone have a video of the sound a bad one makes? My squeal only happens randomly... after the car is heated up... and goes away when i press on the brakes.

Have you had your dealer inspect the pump for you, crankymod? What's the current mileage on your rig? I'll research ways to help.

Not to highjack the thread too much, but my 2011 eco had the stutter too and after some not so pleasant dealer experiences (they refused to perform the issued TSBs for the stutter on my truck) I decided to just do the plugs myself and see if this would help me out.

The good news is it fixed the stutter! My old plugs where completely burnt up and waaay out of gap. I think they were at like .060 +/- if I remember correctly. Two bits of bad news, my iginition coil on the cylinder closest to the driver would get so hot that the plastic head on it cracked upon removal .. . add $60 to the job. The second issue I found in changing the plugs was that the electrical connectors have become so brittle over the 4 year life of the truck that 3 out of the 6 broke despite me being as gentle as possible. Ugh! I haven't replaced these connectors and they seem to be holding, but WTF!? I am going to wrap them in electrical tape to enure they stay connected.

Onto the OP subject. I too have had the grinding noise from the vacuum pump for about one year (20,000 miles) and I have been putting it off because my brakes have been functional. Well, the time has come to do the front pads/rotors and the rear pads. Seems like I should do all braking parts that I know to be bad. . .

Thanks for the faulty part that is known to fail and you do nothing about it ford!!!! I have to say my dealer experience with any problem, including small things during my warranty, has been absolutely atrocious! It reminds me why I try to do all the work on my truck myself. It makes me doubt buying the truck brand new if I don't trust Ford to do what is right by the customer/warranty and even if they do, I don't trust their work.

All said I really do like my truck though. . . the dealer !!!

I don't get it. If the Ford Rep on the Forum (Brittany or Crystal I believe it is) really wants to be help then get this DANGEROUS brake failure issue recalled. Why would you wait until someone is hurt or worse killed because of a brake failure. This is not good. Mine is failed after being out of warranty and after reading the thousands of complaints about this I'm pretty stewed. Ford knows about this problem now and is NOT addressing it

I said the same thing to my dealer and their reply "we can't do nothing until it throws a code" total BS, that's why it's their problem now. it's been sitting on their lot for 2 weeks and they haven't fixed it yet, so they are not able to re-sell yet.
