So this 'pump' is only on the 3.5L Ecoboost? and is not on the 5L V8 engine?

in another thread of mine I commented on a brake noise issue, a fellow poster stated it might be the vaccuum pump mentioned here. Does my engine even have one?
(just bought new in October....)

Thanks.

No , the 5.0L does not have an electric vacuum pump. Your engine creates enough vacuum to assist the power brakes. The Ecoboost is forced induction (turbos) and that creates positive pressure instead of vacuum. So it needs its own "vacuum pump" to assist the brakes.

Default Replacing this yourself.

I am able to pick a new pump up in Calgary from a dealership for $200.00. It sounds like it is easy to replace. Is there any programming or anything that needs to be done or do you just take the old one off and put the new one on? Thanks!

RMGST:
I got a question for you: before your pump froze up did you have symptoms? I've had my pump replaced twice and the third is going. I've noticed on my truck that in the winter (cold weather) i don't have symtoms. Just curious to know if other's are having the same symptoms in the cold weather. I am having a hard time with the dealer admitting there is a problem because it doesn't throw a code.

thanks
jg

Default Replaced My Vacuum Pump Today

Old & New Pump side by side

Crack in old pump

New pump

I picked up the new pump today and installed it in the truck. It is a very simple job with the exception of trying to figure out how to unplug the electrical connection . But with the help of a couple of great forum members was able to get it done. A shout out goes to Scribe308 and Bpierre.

The new part is made out of a hardened plastic type material where as the old part was possibly aluminum. My old pump had a crack right through the whole thing (see pictures).

I opened up the part package at the dealership just to make sure it was the same thing. It looks a little different so I asked the parts person to make sure it was the right part. He assured me it was and said they sell a ton of them. To which I replied "that is because they are defective and Ford has yet to acknowledge it". To which he replied "DOH!"

Anyways, I wish the timing chain issue was this simple.

That almost sounds normal to me. Possibly a little louder than normal. When they go bad they make a high pitched squealing sound that is unmistakeable.

Default Brakes Redone

Hey;

After changing out my vacuum assist pump a little while back I had to change the front pads and rotors today.

When I picked up the truck today the check engine light came on.

Would the brake job have done anything to cause that?

Thanks to anyone the replies.
