Default Ecoboost Questions

Hey guys just picked up a 2012 Ecoboost with 47k miles. Spotless truck. Crew cab xtr package. Not quite sure of gear ratio but everything is factory. I'm getting 13.4 mpg and really not flogging on it or anything just normal driving. Does this sound right? The truck runs fine otherwise.

Seems low to me. I'm discussing this same thing with the guys on another forum. We're attributing it to winter fuel.. but still investigating. My 2wd went from avg 17.8 or about 80k miles.. now I'm at 15.8.

Your is 4x4? They get a little worse than the 2wd. Have you changed your spark plugs yet, that should be the 1st thing you check.

It is 4x4. Haven't checked the spark plugs because it seems to run fine. What should I look for when checking them?

I would suggest replacing the plugs first. When I had my EcoBoost and I changed the plugs I noticed that stock were all gapped between .040 and .045. Switching to new plugs gapped at .035 and replacing my air filter netted me around 2mpg.

Winter gas also plays into this, as when winter came I dropped from around 17-18 down to 16. My truck was a 2011 w/ 70k under it when I did this, so you may or may not get better results.

Good luck though!

13.4 is my lifetime average with a lead foot in the city, and highway miles are towing 3-4K.

It's a Canadian truck so it only knows how to figure in Liters and apologize.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll check the spark plugs out and also looking into a tuner. What air filter do you guys recommend? This new era of trucks is way more advanced than my 5.4s or my 7.3 was. Happy to be in it though. Rides like a dream.
