I agree, get the 5.0. I don't have much of a need for the power, but I WANT the power so the ecoboost always gets my vote. but if you just want a truck that works the 5.0 will be cheaper and plenty enough for your needs

I have a 13 5.0. It does everything I need it to do. SCrew Short box 2WD. I have the 3.55 locking diff. Had to use it a couple times last winter to get out of snow packed parking spots. Great feature.......although I turned off the traction control to have some fun in the same parking lot. Haha.

Just drive them both. And realize that the 5.0 will work just as well as the 3.5. These aren't race cars or Super Duty's. Just pick your poison and don't look back. I would recommend getting a car fax on both of them before you even consider buying them though.

My advice is to find a truck with the features you want (color, bench/console, etc) and buy it without worrying about which engine is in it. Both engines are great, just worry about the other things you want in a truck. I just bought a 2011 with the ecoboost myself simply because it had the options I wanted in the color I wanted, at the price I wanted to spend. I researched both engines in detail and came to the conclusion that they are both great!

I don't think this question is as cut and dry as everyone is making it out to be. There is no right answer, it really comes down to what you'll be doing with it, and how you use it. I owned a 2011 3.5 EB 4x4 CC 5.5' bed, and I loved it except for the bed. Now I have a 2013 5.0 4x4 CC 6.5' bed, and I have to say that I like the 5.0 better for my use (primary commute vehicle, and camping / fun trips on weekends). They both were 3.73 gears so, basically equal trucks other than the engine/bed. I felt the power of the EB off the line, but I feel the 5.0 has a better (read: more traditional) power curve that loves to rev. It FEELS faster to me (I know it's not faster, but it FEELS faster in the seat-of-the-pants meter) I don't tow anything, my lifetime MPG according to the dash on the EB was 15.3 MPG and in the 5.0 it is 14.1. My commute is mostly city stop lights, at most I have 2 minutes at 65mph. I hope this helps someone, as I really feel it is not as simple as the EB has more power, therefore it is automatically better. If my needs changed, I would absolutely consider another EB, I have nothing but good things to say about them, and would most certainly recommend it to someone. I'd say drive both (long test drives) a couple of times, and make your decision. Either way, you can't go wrong, it is a FORD after all. That's something I feel a lot of people on this forum forget.

Sorry for the long post, but I felt my experience may help someone.

Chris

I had an '11 Ecoboost that I traded in last year for my '13 fx4 5.0.

They both have similar mpgs. The EB felt faster under boost than the 5.0 to me, but that was also a 2wd truck vs a 4wd. I like the 5.0 better.

Again, if your going to tow a lot of weight ...the Boost is extremely hard to beat. I cruised from AZ to San Diego pulling my travel palace. Wife, daughter, 3 dogs (frickin nuts!)..cargo in the bed...more cargo inside the trailer and 8k+ were on our way. Absolutely loved the trip...set the cruise and I mean just easy money all the way! From a dead stop, to merging ..... getting up to speed is really amazing. I came from a Titan...and it had headers, exhaust, tune, etc...and it did the pull ...but their was always some drama. And although the V8 rumble was pretty cool. The Boost is soooo frickin quiet...I couldn't be more happier (wait til it's out of warranty-mods!!)
So to each their own, but the Boost is one hell of a powerplant!
