My thanks to bigmike67 and all the others who posted their problems with the Electric Power Steering system.

I have a 2011 F150 with 38,000. Today driving down a main road on the morning commute I signaled a right turn and as I began the turn the power steering system failed. The failure caused me to go over into the oncoming lane, but fortunately there was no traffic heading my way at the time and i muscled the truck back into my lane. I shut the motor off and restarted it. The PS worked for about 200 feet or so, then failure and the warning message.

Called the dealer and took it in (carefully) and was given the news that the repair would be $1,600+!!! Needless to say, I am VERY unhappy.

Based on what I read here, I plan on contacting Ford, and also filing a report with NHTSA. I was very fortunate that the road I turned into did not have any traffic heading my way, and was able to maintain control of the vehicle. I am thankful I was at the wheel and not my wife or an inexperienced driver who is unused to "manual" steering.

I just found this forum while googling my "Power Steering Assist Fault" message that I got on Friday 11/20 on my 2013 F-150 Platinum, which has 36,XXX miles, naturally. I just had a 2.5' Rough Country leveling kit put on the front end of my truck and on Saturday 11/21, my power steering was out. The shop that installed the kit is very reputable around central Oklahoma, so I gave them a call and they said it sometimes happens, but not after they align the vehicle, which they had already done for me. After reading here, I disconnected the battery and reconnected and that cleared my code until Monday 11/23. I took it back into the accessory shop and they said they could find nothing wrong, but they "reset the code." This story is getting lengthy, but all together, the truck drove without issue until today, when I received the original "Power Steering Assist Fault" again upon start-up. I'm incredibly frustrated and literally scared to drive the vehicle, even if the code is "reset." I guess it's off to a certified Ford dealership to see if they can diagnose the problem, but appreciate all of the input I found here.

Has anyone had any luck with getting any kind of a refund from Ford? My bill for getting the EPAS system on my truck fixed was ~$2,000. And after contacting Ford, all I got was a response saying that anything not covered under the Manufacturer Warranties would be my full responsibility to pay. Just curious if anyone had any luck getting some money back from Ford, and if so, what did you have to do to make it happen?

Nope, totally frustrated because it is a well documented problem and a safety hazard. I wonder if we could get an attorney that would be intetested in filing a class action lawsuit?

Other than the odd local dealer participation, I am not aware of anyone in Canada or the USA that has received any outside warranty compensation or consideration from FORD. As the incidents pile up, we can only hope that some regulatory body will launch an investigation into these critical component failures. An issued recall , probably forced, not voluntary on FORD'S part, is our only hope for some monetary and product coverage resolve.

My truck is at a local ford dealership and I had to replace my EPAS for ~$1842. The shop manager (a friend) is speaking with Ford on my behalf to see if ford will step in and take care of any of the costs. I'm not optimistic, but I'll report back if they do. I'm just ~1,000 miles over my 36K mile warranty.

These racks are like $500 on rockauto after core. Stop taking your trucks to the dealer for non warranty work and you guys wouldn't be out so much money. A normal shop should be able to do it for $8-900.

Only decent thing is that buying a ford part comes with the 2 year unlimited mile warranty. But the parts on rockauto are ford parts.

I just got a 2011 F150 ecoboost with 37,000 miles. The power steering went out in the middle of a turn. Not fun. The power assist fault as well as the service advancetrac warnings came on. I dropped it off at the dealer. I can't believe I just got this truck with low mileage and it's already having problems. I'm not happy! Hopefully Ford will help out. I'm already missing my chevy that I just gave up. I hope I don't regret this.

Has anyone changed this out themselves? I'm not a master mechanic or anything but I can turn a wrench. Is this something that an average person can replace?

You can replace it yourself.. It's not a bad job to do but it must be programmed when done...and than aligned
