EPAS Failure - Electric Power steering
#41
Yeah i know what you mean but i get in my dads 09 and the steering is more tough or heavy as you would say and feels like a heafty truck steering. I like the "light" feeling in parking situations but thats about it. I hate that the steering rack out of anything is going to be the first thing to fail in a solid built truck. Its sad

You might be able to put the extended warranty on it.. and it would pay for itself probably just on this repair alone…… just an idea……..

Power Steering Assist failure
Yesterday, my husband and I were riding in out 2013 F150 with only 17,000 miles. We were riding through a neighborhood and my husband turned right and the power steering completely failed. The dashboard said "Power Steering Assist Failure". What was really scary was there was a kid on a bike directly in front of us and we almost hit him. My husband stopped and turned off the truck and restarted. We tried to head home going very slowly but we were a 30 minute ride from home. This happened 4 times and then it would not reset anymore when you shut the engine down and restarted. We called a tow truck and had it sent to the Ford dealership where we bought it in our hometown. It was after hours and on Saturday so it will be Monday before we can talk to anyone. I went online today and looked to see if there was a recall and it seems that there is a recall on some SUV's , Escape and Explorer as well as some Mercury's. No F-150. This is a scary situation. If I had been driving or my 17 year old son at a higher rate of speed we could have been killed. I have owned many Ford's in my lifetime. I have owned 2 Explorers, 1995 and 2012. I drove a 2004 Expedition for several years. We bought my oldest son a 2007 F-150, and my husband has an old 1985 F-350 that he will not part with. We are a Ford family but this is the first brand new vehicle we have ever owned. It only had 45 miles on it when we bought it in September 2013. Now I am afraid to drive it for fear that this will continue to happen. Why hasn't Ford recalled the trucks when it is obviously a problem. How many people have to be injured?

Sorry, couldn't resist. But yes. Things break sometimes. It sucks and sometimes is a little dangerous. Buy the epas failures are quite rare it seems so far. Certainly no recall is needed yet.

I am having to have the EPAS steering rack replaced in my 2011 F 150 that has just under 60,000 miles on it. My dealer tried to get Ford to help out and they said no. I called Ford directly and tried to get them to help and they said no. I told them that this appears to be a known issue and that I wouldn't mind paying for the labor if they would cover the cost of the steering rack but they said no. What I don't understand is how come some people are getting help from Ford and others aren't based on everything I read on a lot of web postings and why Ford, knowing this is an issue, is not stepping up and taking care of the problem. I have owned Fords for over 30 years but I think this is my last one.

EAPS failure-79000kms/48000 miles- 2011F150
After leaving my Ford dealers for service a couple of weeks ago, noticed noise while turning . Dealer diagnosed RVC CODE RPXQRB4LT879R. Internal fault, replace , $1374.00 plus taxes. They said not warranty, call Ford, no repair parts, just entire rack unit. They sent me home with truck which surprised me.
Truck is personal transport, no offroad, little trailer work, mostly highway. I am extremely disappointed at the lack of coverage. Opening file with Ford. Will update.
