Question E15 Fuel in the Ecoboost

I've got a 2012 F-150 with the Ecoboost engine. Recently a local station has started carrying E15 fuel. Runs about 10-15 cents cheaper than the regular gas/up to 10% ethanol.

Thinking about running a tank of E15 to check performance and mileage. Pump shows 88 octane. I understand my mileage will drop a little with the added ethanol but will have to run a cost per gallon analysis.

My main question is has anyone tried this fuel type yet? EPA shows it is approved for all vehicles 2001 and newer. Gas cap shows Gasoline/E-10 and no E20-E85.

I asked Ford Customer Service and all they could tell me is check the owner's manual or ask the dealer. Sounds like they don't even know.

we run 87 octane NON ETHANOL fuel almost exclusively

if i cant find non ethanol fuel on the road i fill up with 92 that may contain up to 10% ethanol...... usually within 20 miles i can feel the loss of performance and my highway mileage drops .5 to 1.5 mpg at 75 mph

we generally get 580-620 miles per tank on non ethanol
and 525 to 570 on ethanol infused fuel

that being said my highway mpg on non ethanol runs 17.8 now to 18.4 at texas speeds// 75 plus

Ford does not recommend anything above 10

Yeah I know that's what the owner's manual and gas cap showed. But why no reference to E15 in either place?

Gas cap completely skips it and just says no E20-E85. Maybe they were expecting the move of E15 to become the norm in the next few years?

E10 should provide a little more power (though probably not noticeable by sotp), not less...and if you're going from 87E0 to 92E10 it should be a bigger bump.

Why? E10 still the same octane it's just less energy for a given volume. That says to me "same power, worse economy". The only reason E85 provides a power bump is because it is a higher octane (Somewhere just north of 100) allowing you to run more timing. It's still less stored energy for a given volume than gasoline... which is why your fuel economy takes a dump.

EDIT:
Just realized I can't read. That is *if* you were referring to "E0 87octane" vs "E10 92octane". Which I think you were.

87 E0 vs 87 E10 should theoretically make the same power with the E10 getting worse economy. I do know the feeling powerboatr is talking about though... for some reason the gas pedal in my truck feels a little soggier with E10 vs E0 of the same rating.

So you think I would see a big difference in mileage with a 5.0 going from 87 to 92? Or is this only related to the v6?

It happens with the 5.0 too. The difference for me (5.0) appears to just offset the cost difference in fuel (at most stations) 87 is a little cheaper to fill the tank, 92/93 goes a little further between tanks. Play with it and see.

All I know is I ran E85 in my Titan with headers, chip, exhaust, ram air....and it came alive! Gas mileage was about 2 mpg down, but it ran smooth.
So the 5.0 will run like a rapped ape! And has way more ponies than the Titan ever did...
