The seat appears to mount on dense plastic or steal bars under the foam. While sitting in the seat it feals like my left side it riding right on this bar. I'm 250lbs and 6 foot. Big guy, but not huge in my opinion. It probably doesn't help that it's the left side and that foam gets a little more work when I get in and out of the truck.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or has anyone took these seats apart? If I reach under the right side of the foam I can feel the bar. I'm curious if I could load some dense material on top of this bar to ease the pain. Or put some more foam in the left side of the seat. Not sure what to do at this point.

The last thing I thought about was not liking the seat or having trouble in it. I have own 10 vehicles and have never has an issue like this. There just isn't a lot of foam between the driver and the bar IMO.

Any advice is helpful. Thanks.
IMO...there are three problems. .. the cheap soy based foam Ford started using AND....lack of proper spring support. If you take the seat apart you will see that compared to a Dodge seat the springs don't provide enough support and allow you to sink to far down in the **** poor cushion. You can beef up the springs with spring reinforcing wire attached to the original springs or stiffer springs bought of the internet. Secondly...if you remove the cushion where you can see the frame, you will see the frame has a distinct rise on both sides just about where your thigh would rest. Why...I have no idea? A weak cushion and weak springs allow your butt to sag to far down in the seat, hurts your back and your leg comes to rest on that rise in the seat frame. I tried all sorts of additional foam but the only thing that worked for me was to beef up the springs. I had a 2003 ford F-150 that I put 145,000 miles on and not one hint of trouble with the seat. Got my 2011 and 6 months later was having back trouble. Hope this helps.

I had a 2011 FX4 with no seat problems. I purchased a 2014 King Ranch, and the seat is very uncomfortable. It is like said in the previous statement. the seat frame comes up on both sides and digs into you. I have a 2015 F250 Platinum the seats are very comfortable.

I have a '13 XLT with power cloth seats. I added some foam to the low back area when I put heaters in the seats.

I like these seats! I just drove my truck from central Ohio to the Oregon coast and back - almost 8000 miles over a month - and I felt pretty good. I'm 6'1", 200 lb. The Crew cab makes for a very comfortable ride for three people.

My left rear shock is now leaking at 38,000 miles, dangit.

Default These pads work really well.

Im new to the forums here but would like to put in my two cents...These pad have worked great for me, you might want to check them out. I drive long distances at a time and the longer I go, the better these things feel.

sitting in the 2015 lariat, i can say that its only gotten worse at 11K miles. The pain from my lower back to the rear of my knee has gotten worse. I dont want to drive this truck any longer, and have been driving the explorer everywhere I go. I've even started to look at other trucks (tacoma: smaller, lower to the floor seat), talked to an seat guy to try and remedy the issue. I've never been to a chiropractor before, but i have my first visit tomorrow.

'12 stx, manual cloth seats.

I'm 5'8", 195 lbs.

Taking out the wallet helps considerably for back pain.

my main complaint was that it seems like the seats swallowed me. High, tight side bolsters, big, wide seat back. Low seating position, felt like i was peeking over the steering wheel. Made me miss the vinyl seats in my '08 XL.

So I cut a little "booster" out of some 3/4" neoprene/foam stuff we use at work to insulate chiller lines. Reacts kinda like memory foam, and is pretty dense. Made it fit into the center part of the seat bottom (side to side), and covers only the rear half of the seat bottom. It was covered with a seat cover, but they wore out and got chunked. now it just sits in the seat.

This changed the seat enough to put me in a better driving position, put the manual lumbar in a better spot, and it's much more comfortable. when it wears flat, i just cut out another one.

And yes, my tall friends make fun of me for it....

Tony,
You and I are about the same height and weight so maybe my solution will help you as well.

I had serious sciatic nerve trouble for years until I analyzed why I couldn't drive for more than a couple of hours w/o serious pain, but could ride my Honda Goldwing for hours on end w/o the pain. My conclusion was that I had better posture on the Honda.

My solution was to adjust my car seats for a more upright position; leveled up the seat bottom. I found that I could then drive w/o pain.

When I bought the '13 F-150 FX4 I had that prob again. After long consideration and trying to get the seat leveled it finally dawned on me that the floor under the seat was not level and the seat adjustment was not sufficient to get the seat leveled. I started off with your solution and bought a wedge shaped cushion that leveled me up and that certainly helped.

My final solution was to cut a couple of 2x4 blocks, drilled holes in them for the seat bolts, painted them flat black and installed them (one on each side) under the rear seat frame where it bolts to the floor. I went to a specialty hardware store for longer bolts of the same strength as the factory bolts and secured the seat over the blocks. It still lacks a little being totally level (prob could use another 3/4"), but it is close enough that I can now comfortably drive my truck w/o the pain.

I noticed in looking at a friend's '15 F-150 that Ford has leveled the floor under the front seats so I gather I may not have been the only one that noticed the problem.

I hope that helps you!

You guys are a bunch of pansies......

Just kidding. I have factory leather seats and put some neoprene seat covers over them and they are super comfortable now. Just the right amount of padding.

The extra padding has got to help. Checkout the clazzio seat covers, I've seen them on truckleather and ebay.

Thanks for the info. I thought about raising the seat in the rear so it sits flat when you look at its side profile. It didn't look possible, the bolts seemed to be welded to the floor. I've tried the seat wedge, just didn't feel right. Im going to have an upholstery guy add about 3" of foam to the rear half of the seat to possible mimic a flat seat. I sat in the passenger side seat (still firm) feels so much better.
