Hi Gents.. ive ordered one of the last XLT coming into the dealer for 2014 here in Vancouver BC. Last of the production for this model as you know.. I drove a 2011 back in the day and decided for the GMC because of the brutal seat comfort in the ford at the time.. 6'4" 285.
Im optimistic for the 2014 coming in. Now my question:
Does anyone know if the seat skeleton and or spring business or even the foam has changed from say 2011 to 2014? Is there a way to request this or obtain it ? jlineman@gmail.com I'm going to email you as I'm putting in leather and heated seats and would do the springs at the same time if necessary. thanks guys

My previous posts can explain what I've done.

a couple of months ago, I changed it again. My net change from OEM is now this:
Replaced all 4 springs with #9 no sag springs.
Still have the new OEM cushion
One extra layer of foam on the center top of the seat
And Clazzio memory foam seat covers.

Much better support and pretty comfy for me.

Just wanted to share.

Glad I stumbled onto this thread. I have a 2014 KR. Had it for about 6 weeks and I thought it was just me, but the seats are the most uncomfortable I've ever had. I had a 2011 FX-4 with no seat issues. I also have a 2015 Platinum F-250 and the seats are very comfortable. Wish I could get some of the Platinum seats to fit my KR. I'll try the spring fix. Great info in this thread!

Could you please tell us where you got the #9 no sag springs? Sounds a lot easier than modifying the springs that I did.

I purchased them from eBay. They were cheap enough that I bought enough to do it twice, just in case I screwed up. Wife won't let me install them in her Expedition.

Since my last seat modifications, I've stopped constantly adjusting the seat and the nerve in my right leg hasn't flared up in weeks. It's worked for me.

Hi there.. got my truck xlt.. seats brutal .. same issues as you guys.. upon investigation the issue is this:
- if your 175 lbs your fine because your little **** will fit between the seat bolsters and not sit on the seat skeleton. The springs can deflect downward and no issues
- if your like me 275lbs I'm on top of the bolster and the springs deflect and no support and bang your on top of the left and right metal frame .
- The fix is to strengthen the seat springs.. mine has been reinforced with a rigid panel underneath as this prevent the foam from compressing around the flimsy springs. The next part is more denser foam to rigid up the seat. This provides the support
- the downfall with this is the seat is hard and for me the seams on the fabric and where the seat covering is hog ringed pinches my thigh skin..
- the design on these things is terrible.
- i checked out the 2015 and guess what- they have reinforced the springs and offer a slightly differntt seat cushion. if you sit in a 2015 F150 compare to what you have- big difference. email me and i'll send you a video i took.
- the other consideration here guys is that the more you stuff it the higher you get and the lumbar won't line up and watch your head room if you like the seat high.. Im 6'4' and you get the idea..
- I've got some improvements but he actual comfort is still and issue. Im sitting on a obusform seat cushion while filling the voids in the seat with rolled up towels. This is a gong show but i have it to the point where sits comfy.. the trick now is that what i have on top needs to get under some fabric covering..
- the dealership has all but told me to go pound it.. ford corporate has their ****..
- I'm disappointed to say the least..
- used to drive a silverado.. those are made for big guys... why ford thinks they need to have a sporty front seat build for a wee man is beyond me..

I'm open to comments and suggestions on how to make this more comfy

thanks guys
greg

I'm 5'10" and 235lbs. I have recently acquired an 09 F-150 XL and have noticed the same ergonomic issues with the cabin, steering wheel, seat which have been mentioned. I haven't had a truck since my 2001 F250 XLT which had a very comfortable cab and 40/20/40 bench seat. I was expecting the same level of comfort and i am surprised that i didn't notice any of this before purchasing the truck? To me it seems like this problem starts with the door header. It is set so low that i need to bend my neck when getting in to avoid bashing my head into it. This is compounded by the high seat which is probably set high so you can look over your shoulder and see past the tall bed rails. Not sure how I'm going to do this, but i am considering lowering the back of the truck 1". Yesterday i drove the truck long enough to find a seat position which mostly solves the seat to steering wheel distance issue. I now have a slight bend in my arms when holding the steering wheel, but I feel like I'm now too close to the dash and would still like the steering wheel to be an 1" 1/2" closer to me. With the available factory adjustments this setting will work for now. With the seat adjusted so i'm not reaching for the steering wheel I am wishing this steering was another 1 1/2" bigger in diameter. It seems too small and i cannot reach it with either arm resting an elbow on one of the arm rests. I am wondering if the F-250 steering wheel is of a larger diameter and will fit? I think this seat is designed for a slim person. It feels small in all directions. I feel like the bolster at the edge of the seat puts to much pressure on my thighs and my but is in a hole and the seat sides are too tall and close to give me room to move side to side. The back rest is also too narrow with the sides being too tall. They put more pressure on my back then the center part of the seat does. The adjustable lumbar support does offer some adjustment but after adjusting it to support the lower portion of my back the mid portion is left completely unsupported and feels like its dropping into a hole which is accentuated by the top of the seat where the shoulders rest. It pushes my shoulders forward causing me to feel hunched over. Considering Ford has previously built many comfortable seat designs i don't understand what Ford was thinking when they put this abomination of a seat seat into a truck which needs to fit every person that gets into it? I have added three 5/8" flat washers under the rear seat mounts as a temporary solution. This helps some but doesn't solve all of the seat issues. I am going to try the mentioned solutions. Thanks for sharing those.

Default 2014 XLT with buckets and console

My 2014 XLT with middle console is fairly comfortable, but I feel like I'm slightly leaning towards the center of the truck.. I think I'm gonna try to put some washers under the right side to see if it helps enough (if it's even possible, I keep forgetting to look at it to see how it's mounted) .

The seats are actually inside of center of steering wheel. That's one thing I really don't like from an ergonomic standpoint. Look at your wheel, it's not centered on the gauges and you aren't centered on the wheel.

Default Driver's seat is painfully uncomfortable...

I finally fixed my seat by trading the F150 truck. I'm over 40 years old and have only owned Ford....until now.

Wife wanted a Suburban to replace the Expedition. After driving it a few days, the leg pain was gone. I sat in a Raptor and F250 Platinum with no improvement.

So a few days later I came home with a GMC Sierra. Time will tell but the interior seems better quality and the seat works better for me.
