Drive line Clunk
#71
Slip yoke clunk affects all makes and brands. They all say to do the same thing... disassemble, clean, and grease heavily. Ford's XG-8 grease is teflon based and seems to be prefered by other brands too. I think as long as you use a teflon based grease you will get it last years compared to other grease for some reason.

Purchased new; 2009 F150 FX4 SuperCrew 5.5 bed; built 07/2009; 1 piece driveshaft; ~37,000 miles. I am experiencing the same issue: At a slow speed while LIGHTLY applying brakes, just as the truck is about to come to a complete stop...CLUNK. I notice it more often when approaching a red light that turns green (if that makes sense)--I'll be slowly coasting/braking for the red light, and when it turns green as soon as I let off the brake...CLUNK. Out of curiosity, I shifted to 3rd while slowing to see if it would clunk and it's never happened. I've even gone from Drive --> clunk, to 3rd --> no clunk, to drive --> clunk. Transmission issue?
I've only noticed a clunk when accelerating a few times, and that was from a slow rolling speed while lightly accelerating.
I remember having this happen at lower miles also but always thought it was my oem rotors (don't get me started about the oem rotors Ford uses).
I'm dropping my truck off today for this problem and will post back with any details I get. I'm also bringing a few TSB's (04-26-6, 09-25-5) with me even though those do not specifically apply to my year of truck, or 1 piece driveshaft.

So 2 years later what have you guys found? I just picked up an '09 F-150 Screw with 60k miles and have noticed the clunk when coming to a stop and starting again. Spoke to a friend who said it may just be the lugs on the 18s plus the beefy Terra Grapplers, but from reading this post I'm convinced it isn't.
If I take it to a Ford dealer and cite one of the TSBs will they do it for me free or charge for it? I have a regular mechanic I trust so unless Ford is going to work some magic I'll just take it to him.

You can do all of the following and it should be resolved-
-install 1" bump stops in front of axle to replace the crappy ford ones
- install roadmaster active suspension kit
-clean and re grease slip joint with fords lube with new boot and clamps
All in all, if you it all yourself your looking at 375-400 total in parts, I did this all and no issues anymore.

Welp, got the clunk and had the clunk for some time now. My question is I'm currently running a tuner, so should I return it to stock before taking into the dealer or leave it alone? Thanks in advance for the help...

Solution to the clunk was pretty simple for me... turns out there is a spacer "kit" that the dealership had that went between the rear spring and the frame... it was installed under warranty and the problem was resolved.

Edit: derp, you said rear spring, not driveshaft.

I've had the clunk for the last 2 months in my 1998 4X4. I read the TSB so I took it to a Ford dealership. They dropped the driveshaft, but would not grease the slip yoke because they said it's lubricated by the transmission oil (even tho I showed them the TSB). But the rear output seal of the transfer case was leaking badly so they replaced that. The clunk is now gone.
