I have a 10 Screw, one piece drive shaft and I have a pretty good clunk when I shift it into reverse. Only 1700 miles.

Mine does not clunk when putting into any gear. When coming to a stop or moving from a stop, there's a light thud or jerk feeling, but isn't really audible from inside the cab. The service tech just called to say the splines on the driveshaft are bad to the point they cannot be greased (like the first time), and they are going to replace the entire driveshaft. I haven't looked at it, so don't know if it's a conventional driveshaft with yoke that slips into the trans or a two piece telescoping type driveshaft. If they yoke does slip into the trans, what concerns me is potential damage to mating components inside the trans. Also, how long is the fix good for - 4000 miles as the original?

The sad thing is that I drive mostly highway, always take it very easy, and have never abused this vehicle. I've only towed once with it - from Atlanta to New Orleans with car trailer empty on the way and with car on the way back. I'm thinking seriouly about extending the warranty depending upon how the next 19000 miles go. I'm willing to be patient for Ford to figure it out, but I don't want to have to address this every 5000 miles. As much as I like this truck, sometimes I do miss my 99 Expedition with 236,000 trouble-free (pretty much) miles.

I have a 2010 with 19k miles and it is just starting to do this same thing. I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks for the post you gave me something to look for

I took my truck in last Thursday to get the driveline checked. 1-2 shift was goofy and when coming to a stop or taking off from a stop gave a slight bump/thud/whatever feeling. Finally got it back today.

Service tech called Friday to say the driveshaft needed to be replaced. Previously, they regreased the splines, but splines were damaged this time so they replaced the entire driveshaft (the rear, telescoping driveshaft). This took care of the bump/thud issue. They also reprogrammed the PCM and TCM to the latest calibrations per TSB 10-12-04A and they reset the KAM and performed the trans adaptive shift strategy road test per the TSB. Sorry, don't know exactly what that all means, as I'm just reading it off the service invoice. All I know is that the trans shifts smoother than ever between 1 and 2 and doesn't give the sensation where it doesn't know whether to upshift or downshift. I'm happy for the moment - hope it lasts. Hope this helps others with similar problems.

I have a 2009 and mine started this at about 5,000 miles. I brought it by the dealer and they installed a shim. I'm not exactly sure what this did, if it corrected some angle in the back or what but it's never done it since.

Thanks for the update. I will have to ask for a thorough inspection of mine.

I have a 2010 King Ranch 4x4 with less than 3K on it and I'm having the same issue. I will be taking it in to the dealer soon. More to follow on what they have to say. Also, having issues with the 6 spd tranny. Seems to be confused when to shift and when engine is cold, it shifts into 3rd gear very hard. I'm was told to drive it for another 2-3k and the tranny is apparently supposed to adjust itself to my driving habits. I'm not buying it....I have three different driving habits...in town, highway and pulling a trailer. I'm also getting a slight griding noise for just a few seconds between 25-30 mph. The dealer sent sound recordings and diagnostics to Ford HQs and I was told that there was no fix for this and it would not have any adverse affect on durability, life or performance of trany. My past trucks have been an 03 FX4, 06 Lariat 4x4, 08 FX4, all S-Crews and all have had minor issues, but known like this. After reading some other posts, it appears that many others are having these issues. Just wondering why Ford hasn't done more to correct the problems. I'm a die hard Ford guy, but these Trucks cost to much to be having all these problems right off the assembly line! Thanks for listening and letting me vent!

New to the forum but not new to Ford. My 2010 F150 Crew is doing the same!
Clunks when I start off and clunks when I stop! It's been doing it since I bought it with 11K miles on it. It has a little over 14K on it now and I took it in today! We'll see what the verdict is!

I got my truck back and they pretty much did what others have said.
Teflon grease, new boot and two clamps. It did fix it but from what I'm reading on here,it's a temp fix!
