Default Door Handle Swap

I just purchased a door handle with the built in keypad to switch out on my STX. The truck came with a card, like you probably all know, but what I am wodering is...when you hook up the thing after installing it, the circuitry for the keypad is not involved in the harness, other than maybe power, correct? In better terms, there isn't some special wire in the harness that needs to be there for the keypad to work. I'm thinking I can take it to the dealer and have them flash it once we get it all installed.

Any insight or links you could provide would be great, thanks!

There have been a few people do this mod. I'll have to do a little digging, but I do believe it had to be flashed to match the PATS. I haven't done this mod, so I'm not sure what wiring is hooked up to it.

I added it to my 12 xlt when I bought it new, as it did not come with one! It wont work, unless you go to the dealer and they change your As Built Data in block 15, needs to be 01 instead of 00!

Did the swap, now it's a matter of getting s guy at the dealer to change the code. Swap was easier than I thought it would be and the harness is in the door. It's towards the bottom and is gray and capped. The handle's cord has mounting pins that go into some pre drilled holes on the inner door.

What year was your truck? Any tips or issues your found?

I have a 14. I found a handle, new, on eBay for 50 bucks that was the textures black, which is standard on stx's. I was hesitant because the back side of the door handle looked pretty complex and I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with the lock.

But then I just decided to try. So I got the interior door panel off, and pried the cover back from the door frame. There are two square holes that you can see through, more than likely were there to access the two nuts that attach the right side (looking from the back) of the handle to the door. I undid those and thought the handle would be loose, but turns out when you open the door and look at the side, there are two rubber grommets. Take those off and you will see a third bolt.

Undo that and the handle is now loose. I twisted it some to get it to come out through the outside of the door. As it's about an inch or 2 out, you can access the lock, which is held in by a silver flimsy clamp. Once you pull that off, the lock simply pushes back and out of the handle.

Then you can start to finagle the handle to make the last remaining gray rod, which I think undoes the door when you pull the handle, come apart from the handle. It is a bright orange ring which the silver rod (hooked shaped) goes through.

Just reverse the steps to put the new handle in. The new handle has the cord with pegs on it which your truck has pre drilled holes for those pegs. I looked and felt down into the door and found the gray capped connector, and bingo!

Last step was using the forum to find the code that needed to be changed in block 15 in the bcm.

The code that needs replaced if no keypad is present and you added oem:

726-15-01-0000-0101-45

New code that's needed:

726-15-01-0001-0101-46

Don't forget that "1" in the 4th group of numbers in the new code.

My ford tech wheeled out a computer with the ids software on it and we were done in 15-20 mins. They just have to enter all of block 15, which is about 45 codes similar to the ones above. Good luck and I will try to answer as many questions as I can.
