Default Door Detents 3.0 Northernlights Lab and my experience

Hello all!
Like so many I was very disatisfied with the door detents on my 2013 Ford F150 XLT 302B 4X4.

After searching this forum I found the Door Detent 3.0 thread and left with I want them but I am concerned about install.

So I emailed Northernlight labs with some questions. After a few emails I realized they distribute the detents about 15 miles from my work! Yesterday, Tuesday November 30, around 10:00 am pacific I pulled the trigger. About an hour later I get an email from Mary at NorthernLights labs.

She indicated she had to be in my area today and would hapilly deliver if I'd like about 1:30! OMG! Seriously? SURE!

By 2:00, I had my parts in hand, Mary was reasuring me if there were ANY issues just call Peter! His card was in the box! What a sweet lady! We chatted, shooked hands while I thanked her and went back to work in a mild sort of shock! A few hours after my order, the parts were personally hand delivered to me!

Can you say 5 star service??

When I got home, I read the instructions while looking at my PU. Hmm, seems easy enough.

I gathered my tools and 35 minutes later BOTH were installed! Again, NICE!

The instructions online and in the box were simple enough and it seems redundant to rewrite them so I'll skip that.

However there a few things to note.
1) Wear mechanics gloves as the sheet metal is extremely sharp and hard to see. I eventually removed my gloves for a better feel but was extremely carefull!

2) The detents look Identical to each other. Left and right. Installation orientation is the key. Read the instructions! They are dead on!

3) If it looks like you have two right side detents or two left side detents . . . . flip one! DOH! Ask how I know! LOL!

4) Detents are clearly labeled for left and right orientation. However these marks may be under the rubber thing If you do not see the marks, carefully slide the rubber out of the way!

Today I drove to the marina and the store. First thing I noticed is the FEEL when I opened the doors from in the cab. The doors did not FEEL like they would swing wildly all the way open! NICE! They simply stopped at the second detent and the crazy "I'm gonna ding my door" feel as gone! The doors nicely stop in the second detent for a more nature open and close experience! I can still very easily open the door all the way should I choose. Difference is now I have a choice! SWEEEEET!

Thanks Peter and Mary for the product and special thanks to Mary for such fantastic service delivering the parts!

Anyone who is interested in feeling the detents impact on doors is more than welcome to meet me in South Everett Wa. I'd be happy to let you compare your doors to mine!

a very VERY satisfied customer . .

PS: I will mention they have the same detents for the rear doors on Super Crew trucks coming out soon!
For the cost of one door ding, these are great! Thanks again Mary!

89 plus shipping and tax. I live in Washington which require tax as they are here too.
Shipping was a steal! The parts arrived a few hours after order was placed. If you live here maybe you'll get lucky too! Lol!
Just meeting Mary was worth it!

So,
I'm telling my neighbor about the new detents in my doors. He has an F350.
He looked a bit confused so I said, "let's go look at your truck and I'll show you".

It would seem the F350 already has the 3 step detents!

WHAT? Did Ford just get stingy on the F150? Oh well!

I'm still loving the new detents!

I just installed mine this past Sunday. I have to say that I was putting off on the install because of all the people who complained about how hard it was. It was not hard at all.

I used some solid strand wire I had lying around to thread the old one out, pull the new one in and cinched everything up. In total maybe 30 minutes including searching for a 13 MM socket I couldn't locate initially. The passenger side rubber "plug" was a little more difficult to coax out, so I just pulled a little from the rear and used the wire to pull the old out and new in.

Highly recommended! If Ford didn't fix this on the 2015's they are seriously out of touch with their customers. This is an awesome mod! Thanks guys!

Default Great Service!

I ordered a set on Wednesday afternoon and installed them Saturday. Washington state to Georgia in 2 days. Great quality, easy to follow, photo illustrated instructions. I didn't even need to take out my glovebox, was able to just pinch the stops at the top and let the door drop all the way down.
Outstanding combination of service and quality.
