So I'm waxing my truck tonight and I notice a dent down low on my '13 SuperCrew's front passenger door. It's tough to see in the pics but if you look dead center you can see the disruption in the body line.

Not sure what caused it. My running boards keep car doors from hitting mine, and a truck/suv door would have hit up higher. I don't have any enemies I'm aware of lol, but it looks like someone could have kicked it.

Anyhow, I was really surprised when I touched it at how pliable and soft the metal is, especially down that low, so close to the rigid bottom of the door skin. It's like pushing in on a plastic soda bottle. It almost feels like if I massage it a bit with my fingers, the damn dent might pop out.

Weird.

Not sure the exact thickness of our trucks exterior but yes all vehicles can dent easily.

The metal surrounding the cabin is designed to crumple to dissipate the energy from a collision.

Saw a collision in a crash test between a 1959 Impala and a modern day impala, you would think that huge steel box would obliterate the disposable of today but the test showed occupants (test dummies) of the newer one all survived with minor injury, the test dummy of the older car was considered a fatal collision from the data they recovered.

So yeah the metal is just that tender, put a hair drier or heat gun on it and it'll probably pop back out, it don't look that bad.

When your door skin "flexes" like a leaf in the wind when you shut it, nothing surprises me on these trucks.

Ok but have you ever closed a Tesla door? It's like a time lock safe door at a bank. Solid. And that car broke the crash testing machine. My door flexes when I close it. Like a cheap tin can lol.

I noticed the door shimmy/flex on other trucks of this generation well before buying mine. My '07 did the same, but not as noticeably. However in 7 years of ownership, I never noticed any real soft spots like this.

Matter of fact, there are several things overall that don't seem to be as solid as their counterparts were on my '07, as I keep discovering.

might want to try and take the inside door off (4 screws) and detach the elec. component for the window/lock. peel the plastic and you should be able to genitally push it out.

had experience with this i use to work at academy sports and outdoors and during tax free weekend i was parked on the side which i don't normally do cause theres no camera and its dark at night but had no choice it was so crowded anyways i came back out after my shift to find my drivers window shattered in my seat ( 2 weeks after getting it tinted....) door handle destroyed paint gouged around the handle from the screw driver the used to try and smash my lock with weather stripping on door bent from screw driver and if that wasn't enough a nice dent in my bed under the fuel door all the way to the sheet metal took off the paint and the biggest insult of all? the bastards didn't even bother to look through my stuff they never even opened the door to look all in all insurance paid for everything total cost after new paint on the driver door and side panel of bed new window and tine new weather striping and door handle was about $1200 its been 9 months since and I'm still finding bits of glass! anyway body dings are annoying no matter how they get there

I got a small deflection on the bottom sill of my rear driver door hard to see but I know it's there. Not impressed.
