Do Not Drain Your Oil With a Hot Engine!
Any of you guys make this mistake with your Ecoboost? It may be the same for the 5.0 too but I'm not sure.
Long story short, I was in a hurry to change my oil on Saturday because I had a long distance trip the next day. I tried to wait a little while after shutting the truck down, but then I just decided to pull the plug and let 'er rip. Big mistake on my part! Hot, dirty Mobil 1 spewed all over the tire, transmission lines, ran down the torsion bar and there wasn't a darn thing I could do about it, other than just try to capture as much as I could in the drain pan. I even laid out some thick construction paper before hand thinking I would capture any little splatters... nope, too little, too late. To add insult to injury, this was in the garage at my brand new house! Garage floor isn't looking so new now...
I'm no amateur at doing oil changes and this was the 7th one I had done on my truck. That being said, I've always let the engine cool down more before doing it. I won't be making that mistake again!

I always liked the idea, but used to be a bit worried about the Fumoto valve's ability to seal and not leak.... but after this ordeal I might go that route. Would definitely have made things a lot cleaner!

I've had my truck since 2013, every time i change the oil i make a mess. no beginner to changing oil either, been doing it since high school on my own. for the life of me, i cannot get this absolutely stupid filter location on the EB to flow out of the back funnel only. it will get all over the metal shield and i always have to use about 2 rags to clean up. STUPID !!!

I've used both the Fumoto and the EZ-drain valves. Both are excellent and neither have leaked.

Draining the oil on a fully warmed up engine is the IDEAL time to do it, more of the old oil comes out rather than sitting in oil gallery passage ways inside the engine block.
What would solve your issue has already been discussed, Fumoto valve, get the one that comes with a hose so you can aim the oil directly into what ever you want.
