He said he would dig until he found something and this morning he called with news of a new camera to specifically address this issue. It replaces cameras in trucks make within a specific date range in 2011. So I would assume this is a non-issue on models produced in 2012.

I noticed others had their cameras replaced but complained the option to turn the lines off (and the option to turn off proximity warning) was no longer available - meaning they will ALWAYS remain on. I'm not sure yet if I want to loose that ability. Can someone who recently had their camera replaced verify they still have the option to turn lines & proximity on/off? And also verify that it fixed the original issue of the lines turning themselves off?
Ok so here's the deal, after getting my truck back the new camera alone makes the guide and proximity sensors stay on - but it also disables the camera zoom. I can live with the guide staying on, but the sensors staying on while backing up a trailer SUCKS! And the zoom not working while hooking up a trailer is an annoyance when viewing through the tiny review mirror screen. So i called the dealer - they said no other changes are mentioned but they will call Ford and talk to a tech specialist. Just heard back - there is a required software reset & update needed to properly run the new camera that is not listed. At this point, I will believe it when it works. I'll follow up again when I get it back.

I'm pretty sure I started this behemoth. Some of y'all need to RTFF before posting.

Kudos to Jeremy, though you've brought up a unique point hat hasnt been addressed: disabling the back-up sensor. Ford has made the software so that, if you have the back-up alert selected, the menu to *de-select it* automatically comes on when you put the truck in reverse. I just hit it with my thumb and don't have to hear it. Same thing driving with the tailgate down as with trailer towing. It's nice that there's no searching through menus; it's automatically brought up for you.

I had similar problems with mine. I had my entire camera system replaced twice. The second time they replaced it I had the same issues and they put the wrong camera in.

Ill have to look up the work sheets and see what the part numbers are.

Great News, its fixed! Here are the details and what you need to know. My truck was manufactured late in 2011 and for my specific build date in order to fix the issue of the guidelines disabling itself from the rearview mirror, the dealer had to replace the camera AND perform a “RCV Configuration” for that new camera. This is found under Toolbox>Body>RCV Configuration (NOTE: if your dealer does not perform the RCV Configuration and only installs the new camera certain options WILL be disabled and will be either always on or always off without the ability to change). After the RCV configuration a 5 minute battery disconnect was needed and it was good to go. Again, you must have both the new camera and the RCV config in order to fix the issue.

If your dealer is having a hard time finding this – tell them to look up SSM 22105. This will tell them what camera to replace it with – also at the bottom is very small print with the RCV Configuration instructions, it’s extremely easy to overlook – which is why so many of us have had our cameras replaced – but not gotten the RCV config done.

Everything now works and the preferences I set stay on or off as I chose. Hope this helps you guys having this issue. It literally took me three trips to the dealer to get fixed but I don’t blame them. Ford didn’t make this an easy find for anyone – including the dealer. Thankful to have a great dealership and a great Service Rep who doesn’t give up.

Thanks for the info. I am having the camera replaced as I type this. Hopefully they don't "overlook" the RCV configuration.

This is timely for me, thanks!
My guidelines disappeared for the first time, on Tuesday night.
My truck was built (and purchased) in Oct/11.
Curiously this event coincided my first ever trailer towing experience. I disconnected the trailer, drove away, went to back into the garage, no guidelines.
I reselected the guidleines in the menu and all has been well for the past two days.
If it happens again I'll ask the dealer about it and provide this info.

It's been over a year since I started this thread, and today I finally took my truck to the local Ford dealer with a printout of JeremyDeal's post. The Tech called Ford and they said to follow it exactly. So I got a new camera and the "RCV config" thing done. I tried putting the truck in reverse at every stoplight on the way home and so far the guidelines are staying.

One thing that really helped was getting a good service rep. The first time I took my truck to the dealer, the service rep didn't understand the problem and he just returned my truck at the end of the day with instructions of how to turn the guidelines On using the menus. This time the service rep actually asked me some questions to make sure he understood the problem. So thanks to George at Future Ford in Roseville, and thanks JeremyDeal for posting the solution. Hopefully my guidelines will keep working and I won't have to check this thread anymore.

Glad it's working for you! I'm sure the drivers behind you thought you had lost your mind putting the truck in reverse at every opportunity .

I had my cluster replaced a week ago and as I was backing in the drive, I noticed my guidelines were missing. For a second I thought to myself, well here we go.

I then realized that I had to redo my settings. Shew. Crisis averted.
