Dirt Bike in 5.5 and 6.5 bed...
#11
no need to turn one backwards. Load the 2 outside bikes in as far to the side as possible, and turn the front wheels in towards the center of the cab. Then you can pull the 3rd bike in straight as the bars will not be in the way. Also in a 6.5 bed you can load 2 bikes this way and close the tailgate
Got a pic of this? Sounds good.

Ok i looked through all my pics and cant find one. And i know ive taken one cause i posted on another forum on my last truck to show someone.
Basically simple explanation you can tryout...
-Load first bike as far to one side as posible, lets say left side for this example
-turn front wheel right to full lock, making sure the tire is exactly dead center of bed
-Kick rear wheel to left just far enough so peg doesnthit side of bed.
-Do the same on other side
now basically you have a ton of room in the middle for all the gear bags etc. If ur lucky you have enough room in one of the front corners to fit a gas can nice and secure. If you have fresh long nobbies and an old chain with the wheel all the way back on the adjuster you may have to roll the rear tire in with you hand while you shut the tailgateto unload the suspension. Its pretty cool cause its imposible for the wheels to turn or tip. We even hit a jump loaded like this lol. Gear bags fell out but bikes stayed!
Also with this technique you can load a third bike tailgate down straight in cause the bars do not interfere

Old thread I know, but thought I'd contribute to this for future reference.
I've a 6.5 box on my SCrew, and I can fit 2 bikes (07' KTM 200 XC, 12' Husaberg TE250) in it with the tail gate up IF I let the air out of the bike tires. This is how I haul them when towing our Travel Trailer to races.
If you go with a 5.5, you won't be able to tow and haul more than one bike. If you are hauling just one bike, it will fit fine on an angle. My buddy can fit his KTM 690 Enduro in his 5.5 with the gate up if the bike is angled.
If you need to keep the tail gate down, a suggestion. I had the 3M stone guard applied to the tailgate. Avoids rock chips and you can't even tell it's on the vehicle (same goes for the front end and mirrors).
