Default Dirt Bike in 5.5 and 6.5 bed...

Does anyone know if a 5.5 bed can fit a full sized dirt bike (cr250, crf450, etc) with 3 of them in the bed (2 forward and one facing to the rear) with ease? The dirt bikes are about 7' long and I know I can't get the gate closed when I load them like this even in a 6.5' bed. So in my situation with more interior storage room, will the 5.5 be more practical? Post some pics of you hauling bikes in your 6.5 and 5.5 bed I'm curious to see. Thanks!

Interior room in a 5.5 and 6.5 bed is the same, the truck is just longer for a 6.5

Sorry for the confusion. Right now I have a 08' F150 Supercab 6.5' bed. I am looking to upgrade in the near future to a 12' model and it will either be the same style as I have now or a 5.5" Supercrew. I just need to know if I'll be able to haul the bikes like I do now with more interior room due to possibly having a Supercrew.

The interior will be the same size on a new 5.5 or 6.5, being larger than your 08. They make the whole truck longer to get the 6.5, they don't make the cab shorter. I would get a 6.5. That extra foot really helps if you haul stuff, only city truck grocery getters with small garages get a 5.5, lol!

As you know dirt bikes are long.

Get a 6.5ft bed.

Have a 5.5 bed and have put 3 bikes in no problem. Two facing coward and one back like you said. Have no pictures of that though but it was no problem. Also fit my 660 raptor and yz250 side by side in the bed no problems. When it's just my bike in the back I put it in at an angle and shut the gate.

It's not a dirt bike but last week I picked up an old 72 Harley for my buddy. Fit just fine in my 5'5" bed and we both got several compliments on the bike and the truck on our trip back

My old 05 with the 5.5 bed and my new 2011 with the 6.5 bed. Still can't close the tailgate with it strapped straight forward with 6.5 bed. I would stay with a 6.5 bed, but the 5.5 bed works....it is nicer to have the extra bed room though.

no need to turn one backwards. Load the 2 outside bikes in as far to the side as possible, and turn the front wheels in towards the center of the cab. Then you can pull the 3rd bike in straight as the bars will not be in the way. Also in a 6.5 bed you can load 2 bikes this way and close the tailgate

Another option is getting the bed extender.
