Default DeeZee Tail gate assist

I just installed a 43200 on my 2013 F-150. Tailgate can be closed only by manually routeing the tailgate cable to the left of the assist. Packageing states, Works with Factory Cables. Called DeeZee and they said I would always have to manually adjust the cable. Trying to figure a cheap fix.

To the left of the assist? I just installed mine a few days ago and there is no way my tailgate cable will fit to the left of the assist and the side of the bed. If I try the tailgate won't even close. My tailgate cable slips over top of the assist to the right when the gate closes. No issues with it closing.

Installed one today on my 13 w/ step. I went about 10 turns on insert install. Used a dab of my wifes paisely pink nail polish to mark it. Doesn't drop as slowly as the videos show and I dropped Dee Zee an e-mail. Wondering if the added weight of the step has something to do with that. Still a worth while mod. Got mine at a local Cabelas. Price was a push with a bunch of on-line retailers plus I'm a Cabelas Points *****.

Same here. The cable automatically just kind of goes across the front and to the right of the piston. Gate closes just fine.

Sig Oris, the instructions state 9 turns but I've heard that Dee Zee actually recommends 11 turns for our trucks. I went 12.5 on mine, 11 still felt too loose.

Did you mount the piston upside down? The main body should be at the top. The cable appears to go to the right of the piston on my truck.

Default DeeZee Tailgate assist

Just installed the DZ 43200 on my 2012 F-150 EcoBoost Platinum with tail gate step and hand hold. Ran into the same problem as did most with the cable binding on the right side of the strut. Each time I close the tail gate I have to place the cable onto the left side of the strut, a PIA. Other then that seems to work fine. Got mine at Auto Anything which was on back order hopefully it is the most up to date version.

I have 2013 Platinum with tailgate step and hand hold and have had NO binding or problems with the cable like I had with the old version on my 2011 Platinum. Maybe you did not get the strut on correctly? It has to have the cylinder body at the top and the push rod attaches to the tailgate. I just checked and the cable goes in on the RIGHT side of the cylinder all by itself.

Mabey if you city boys dont have the upper body strength to open and close the tailgate mabey a minivan with a auto liftgate and side doors is up your alley but you would still have to open and close the drivers door manually. Some of these threads are hillarious. Did those assist struts come with a pink thong too.

Ordered one from Amazon and tried to install it today. Issues with the nutsert. Went 9 turns and it wasn't even close to tight and the ball stud wouldn't grad the threads at all. Went 2 more turns, and no dice. Called DeeZee and they are sending me a new one. Of course, I have to drill out the bad one. Hopefully, the new one will work.
