Default Rear View Cam, answers to questions I couldn't find.

I have an 09 Lariat, that didn't come with a rear camera.
After much searching on how to add the camera, I couldn't nail down a fundamental answer to my question "How do you add factory rear cam to the factory nav"

The only write-ups I have found involved a rear view mirror cam, using a generic 'video input module then a reverse trigger' or having the vehicle flashed with another similar vehicle's vin data (which my dealer wasn't too keen on doing)

I knew I had all of the components to make it work, but the radio needed 'programmed' to accept the rear camera signal. I had an option for this, sending the radio out to URS to have them reflash the unit, but I found a better solution.

Lockpick. The lockpick device reprograms the factory radio to accept the rear camera signal once the rest of the pieces are in play. It also allows you to install another camera (codeword for video input) so you can display video from a rear headrest, or another camera, etc as well.

Obviously the lockpick allows DVD in motion as well as NAV input in motion as well.

What you need to install:
lockpick
Emblem Camera
rear harness (to power camera)
center harness (or route 2 wires from rear harness to front harness)

You only need the center harness, or to route the video wires from the back to the front of the truck if your center harness doesn't have the video wires in it from the factory. Don't assume that since you don't have a rear camera, that you don't have these wires, my harness had them.

install the rear camera, and the rear harness, install lockpick and when it asks if you have factory camera tell them no. it will then ask if you want to install it, pick yes.

You will then get the radio unlocked with the settings etc for the rear cam, display, rear cam delay, and so on...

I did a few wiring mods while I had the dash apart, but this is the one I am most pleased with...

Thank you! This is exactly what I wanted to know! So this worked well for you?

I want to do the same thing; my dealer told me they would have to remove the nav unit and send it to Ford for at least a week to reprogram. And it would cost about $700 to add the cam.

I will look into the lockpick; how difficult was it to hook everything up?

Thanks for the missing info.

Those of you that added the rearview mirror with sync in it (two little ***** on the top of the mirror), did you have a problem with the drivers side mirror dimming afterward? Mine does not but the rearview mirror does. I want to say it did at one time but mine doesn't now. I will have to check fuses to see what's up. Sorry, if this is off topic but I didn't want to make a post for just this. Can anyone verify their drivers side mirror is dimming like it should after the addition of the new camera and rearview mirror.

I'd like to set up a manual switch to trigger the camera on at will versus just when the vehicle is in reverse. This is for a non-NAV setup, I'm assuming it is as easy as finding the reverse trigger and adding a switch to it?

Lockpick will allow you to turn on the rear cam at will through radio touch screen functions, you don't need a switch.

hooking everything up was simple, the lockpick box I put up near the sync module under the center speaker on the dash so I can access it easily for firmware upgrades, etc.. (and it keeps the wires nice and neat as well.

if all you are doing is hooking up factory cam you do not need their sync-12 cable, only if you are going to run a separate video input as well.

The lockpick runs a 'reprogram' to add the factory cam info on the radio itself, it takes about 30 seconds to do the entire setup. It asks you simple questions, like do you want dvd in motion automatically active, yes or no.

Good info. Yeah, I'm planning on adding just a factory emblem camera and with Lockpik being able to enable it, I'm sold. I didn't see a spare plug on my rear harness. There is a junction between the spare and bumper but it is just for the rear bumper sensors. So if you get the right cable does it go inline or what? I'm searching now for the picture of what to look for and to find out if I want to go with a chassis harness or just add the two wires and run them up to the frame.

I'm not very mechanically inclined when it comes to messing with my new truck; I've watched the Lockpick video and it looks like something I want someone else to do. How do I know if I have the correct harness, etc?

you need the rear harness that attaches to the rear lights, this powers the cam and connects to the center harness, the front harnesses all have video wire so either your center harness has them or it doesnt. if it doesn't buy a new center harness or just run paired wire from the rear to the front harness and splice it in.

the lockpick is simple, all you really need is a 7 and 8 mm nutdriver, hook tool and a trim removal tool (or be very careful)

my biggest hurdle was the sync plate has a screw behind it, you have to reach up and pop that plate out before you attempt pulling the whole front panel off.

if you have dont have the flow thru console, the trim pieces on the left side just snap in at the bottom, the right side has a 7mm behind the airbag. (although I bet you could pull the radio without completely removing that panel. I did because I had to alter the panel to run a wire for my phone through...

screen and radio come right out with 8 7mm's

the 8mm is to disconnect your neg batt cable and to remove the 3 bolts holding the airbag in.

Has anyone in this discussion happened to try and get the front AND rear cameras to work through lockpic? I see on their site you can get a front camera. My 2010 Platinum has rear sensors and rear camera...but it doesn't have front sensors (silly in my opinion - unless Ford assumed many purchasers of the Platinum edition would be putting blades or bull horns on the front). Any info would be greatly appreciated!
