anyone else have there battery just die on them and nothing was left on in the truck. my truck is just over a year old the battery should still be plenty good. My truck sat overnight and then when i went to start in the next afternoon it was dead.

Do you listen to the radio a lot when not running the engine/?

My GM Delco batteries lasted 7 years in my GMC. You must have a problem somewhere.

A small percentage of batteries will die in infancy.

I wish mine had just 'died'.

Went out to start the truck this past summer. The truck was 6 months old. Press the key-fob to unlock once, then twice for the crew doors. No luck... Thinking I might have messed up, I 'locked' the doors and went again. Still no luck. Used my key to get in the driver's door. Found it really odd, but who knows. I go to start the truck to see if the battery is completely dead or what. The truck starts right away?!? WTF is going on??

At this point I'm just sitting there wondering whats going on. I don't know what comes over me, but I pop the hood, with the truck running, to have a look around. What I got was quite the surprise!!! The +ve post of the battery and it's cable are 'GLOWING' orange by this point. The protective cover over the +ve post has all but melted away and is smoldering. I sprint back into the garage and by some miracle, I grab the right metric wrench to get the -ve cable off the battery.

To make a long story short... the whole truck checks out perfectly. No fuses blown anywhere. Apparently the battery just decided to 'melt down' according to the garage. "It happens' they tell me, and I was lucky as ***** that the battery didn't blow up on me. Good thing I popped the hood, or the whole truck might have gone with it.

Ended up costing me $350+ for the tow, the labor & a new battery. Still haven't even changed the red plastic cover thats all melted on top of the +ve post of the battery. For those who will ask, I paid because my truck was already out of warranty. It had 70K km's (44K miles) at the time.

That sucks about the battery meltdown, but it happens. We have a bunch of batteries at work for our UPS's and we monitor for temp overrun for just such an issue. We've had it happen more than once.

Back to the OP, do you leave the keys in your ignition when parked or some kind of device that would be drawing it down?

i dont leave the key in the ignition and i dont listen to the radio with the truck off. i parked like i do every other day went out the next day and it was dead. maybe its time for a new battery already.

it happens. truck was 2 weeks old with maybe 400 miles on it and my battery died. i just went and bout another one and a dealership gave me my money back when i went it. get a new one and have system tested.

Mine has been dead twice now, 2012 f150 Screw ecoboost…….

The first time the truck was maybe 1 month old and about 700 miles on it, truck just sat overnight and in the AM it was so dead it wouldn’t even unlock the doors… I put a meter on it and battery had 3.7V in it…. I figured I left something on, but then discovered even if you turn the headlights on manually they still turn off after 10-15 minutes so it turns out i didn’t leave anything on in the truck. Anyway I charge it, fire it up, and check my alternator and its charging at 14.3V so all seemed good???

Fast forward another 3 weeks and now a grand total of 1250 miles on the truck and I go out one morning and its DEAD again…. WTF…… pull out the meter and it has 6.8V in it??? I wasn’t gonna mess with it again, so I called roadside and had them tow the POS to the dealer.. Dealer has it for a day and says it’s just a bad battery???? I personally have never seen a battery be good for a few weeks, die, then be good for a few weeks, then die again???


Anyway they put a new battery in it and I’m at 2500 miles now, I keep one of my spare boat batteries under the back seat because quite honestly I expect it to die again out of the blue… if it makes it to spring without dying again then I will remove the spare battery.
