Daytime Running Lights - How To
I have a 2010 F150 XLT SCrew. I was wondering if anyone has already converted their front amber markers into a Daytime Running Lights. Since I have not seen any such topic in this forum, I have already started looking into it and make it my project since it looks simple enough. I want the DRL to comply with the norms such as the light will turn ON only when the gear is shifted out of PARK and OFF when the gear is in the PARK position. I have seen some other competitor trucks (I won't name which one) that has the front amber lights as their DRL instead of the headlights. The reason I do not want to use my headlight is because I converted my headlights into HID.
FYI: I have modded my truck and converted my front headlights into HID (6000k). I also changed the interior lights, cargo lights, backup lights, and the back license plate lights in LEDS (white); what a difference in lighting. I also use the technique posted in this forum to convert each of my side view mirror "useless reflector" into actual turn signals including an additional turn signal (using strip LEDS) under each headlights within the "lip" or free space above the front bumber. I have installed a Ford OEM camera with OEM rear view mirror and it does give me a great view when I am backing up especially in tight places.

Yes, Daytime Running Lights
I am a big fan of DRL's. I make the extra effort to drive with my fog lights on, but that means I have to turn on the parking lights also. And then of course the warning chime that you have left your lights on when you leave your truck. But at least that's better than a dead battery.
So if there is a simple mod for wiring the F-150's for DRL like "coolarmybrat" described, I would like to know.

seems like it would be kind of difficult...
I mean, unless the headlight input splits somewhere, one going to the switch, and one going to a DRL control box (if there is such a dedicated box)
but I though the entire truck was a can-bus system, so there's just a single headlight input wire, and the central control box tells the lights to turn on when the headlight switch is turned on, or when the DRL option kicks in
but I could be completely wrong, I dunno; I don't have DRL, nor would I want it

I hate to recommend taking it to the dealer but...I took my last truck, 08 F250, into the dealer and they hooked it up and enabled daytime running lights. I know Im comparing apples and oranges but the computers between the F150 and F250 cant be that far apart. I got to imagine they can do the same for your truck.
