That's exactly what I was going to do. Fabricate a thin plate with feet, that covers and sits in the tray. Mount the camera, a Garmin, etc. to the plate. Bring power up from the tray or from the side fuse panel as the OP did.

Well, if you go ahead with this. please post the details. With my GoPro I tapped into the USB 2, and ran a normal cigarette-lighter adapter down behind the radio, out the bottom and plugged it into the lighter. Not perfect, but it was clean.

As for the view from the tray, I had my GoPro raised about 2 inches off the tray, and I diid see a lot of the truck hood, but I was also able to see everything else I needed to see.

Does that dash tray just pop up and out?

Yes. If you use a sharp object, you can just pop it out from the side. Underneath, there is a second tray with screws holding it in place, which you can also remove to get to the top of the radio. If I could do this, trust me, anyone can. I'm the least "handy" guy I know.

I'm pretty handy, but messy when it comes to plastic body tabs, push pins, removing door panels, plastic panels, etc., lol.

Here's an image in case, like me, you're confused when it comes to fuse names. The kick panel uses the low profile mini fuse. The fuse splitter is a normal mini type. the mini fuse splitter fits into the low-profile slot with no problem.
Yup, this is correct. Did you end up just removing the fuse box cover with the add-a-fuse?

I put that exact same camera (the GPS version) into my wife's Jeep. It's working great and is completely out of sight.
In my F-150, I have an older VGA res "classic" dashcam with the flipdown monitor. It's kind of big and definitely visible so I'm going to replace it soon.

I am a huge proponent of dashcams in cars, they give me a piece of mind -- drivers are crazy and careless.

So where can 5v power be sourced if one doesn't want to mess with the 12v USB adapter?
