Thumbs up

Just want to say thanks for this thread. I basically have the same set up for my cam. I used a USB converter instead of making my own. Hope I never need the cam but I have it just in case!

I just added a Uniden CAM500 to my truck. Its mounted right beside the mirror and I ran the USB cable under the headliner then down the a-pillar and under the dash. The cable then is plugged into the free USB port on the back of the radio. No wire splicing at all. Here are some pics.

I have only had it installed for a day or two so it is a little early to tell. But yesterday it was 93F out and it was sitting in the truck all day. In fact it was parked with one of those silver reflective sun shades reflecting the sun back on it. The unit got extremely hot to the touch sitting in the sun but it still worked fine.

Well my BlackVue 550 decided to go **** up on me after a year. It worked fine then about 2 weeks later I took another trip and it powers up (both channels) but seems to be frozen. Lights are on but doesn't react when pushing any of the buttons. Unplugged trying to do a reset and still the same. Removed the card and it's blank because nothing is being recorded. I emailed BlackVue and of course haven't heard anything back. I'm thinking about buying a 650 since I could just plug it in to my existing wiring but not sure I want to spend anymore $$$ with this company.

Put a different sd card in it, mine did the same thing and that's what fixed it.

I actually bought a new (larger) SD card for it in late April and have been running that card. So today I reinstalled the factory card and it works perfect. Reinstalled the larger card, same problem. So I'm going to see about replacing this new card.

Did the same thing, I had a 32G or 64G chip (don't remember exactly) in it that went bad, put the original back in voila'.

I have 6 or 7 chips and all of them work except that one. Dunno why, maybe the summer heat killed it prematurely.

What's weird is my truck sits in the garage 98% of the time so I can't blame the heat for mine. I have a 64G card and might get a 32 instead.

Well if it's any consolation sd cards are considered consumable, just glad they have come down so much in cost. Really glad the cams are ok, I about crapped my self when it went stupid, the only reason I figured out the problem is the chip wouldn't show up in my computer unless I let it search it and then it took another 10 mins just to appear. Whew!
