Dashcam - Installation & Review (Pics + Video)
#211
Canada Post says my dash cam is waiting for me at home! Can't wait to get home tonight and un-box it. I will try to get it installed tomorrow. Can anyone confirm that powering it through the USB port is possible? I want to use my USB2 as I rarely use it for listening to music.

Ahhh late to the party on the discount - been looking at getting one of these for a bit now. Oh well, will have to wait and see if another one comes around again soon.

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to do a quick review on the Mini 0803 from Blackboxed.
I've had it installed on the truck for a few months now. It's nice and small and hides perfectly behind my rear-view mirror. I'm not very tech savvy so I had it professionally installed, but if you know anything about slicing you should be able to wire it yourself.
It's has some pretty neat functions like motion sensing and lane departure. I have them both turned off because the motion sensor makes a noise every time the truck it's a bump and it got annoying. The lane departure works fine, I just don't feel I need it.
Now as for the thing actually functioning as a dash cam...it works GREAT! For just over $100 this thing is mighty handy, and is a silent witness if anything were to happen and you need proof. It's worth the peace of mind X10. It's little screen on the back works good enough to aim the camera and quickly review video if you'd like. It's also easy to mute audio (so the gf and I can argue) I'm using a 32GB SD card and it records around 4-5 hours of video before writing over in 1080P. I tried using the "super HD" mode and it didn't seem any clearer but used twice the memory so it's not need IMO. You also have the option to choose which video you keep and "lock" to the card so it doesn't get over-written.
Basically, especially for the money, this little cam has worked great. It's supposed to get down past -30C this week so we'll see how it handles the cold. Summer was easily handled...
Any questions let me know and I'll try and answer them.

I might've posted this earlier or in another thread, but here it is again for those who haven't seen it. Recorded this on the way to work on my Mini 0801. Best part is some media company bought the video rights for $500!
