I love the work TKO - very impressive.
I'm curious about your plastic welding process. I'm not trying to take away any business from you at all, but I'm very handy (worked with fiberglass and carbon fiber in the past for various stereo projects) and thought I may like to take a stab at this myself with a Nexus 7 tablet. Would you mind describing the tools & equipment, materials, and general process you use for plastic welding?

Just read this entire thread, think I need a drink now.
Awesome work. I had seen the iPad install by someone else on youtube some time ago, and was hoping someone would do the same install, but removable... and then searching tonight after not even thinking about for months, I found your thread.
I'm curious about charging the pad though. Obviously, the charging port is on the bottom of the iPad, so I'm assuming that with the top remove mount, there is no way to actually charge it unless you were to remove the iPad and plug it into the 12v socket. With that in mind, I'm figuring that you just drop the Ipad into place and run it on it's battery. Is this correct?
Also, if you could shoot me a PM with pricing for the iPad 3 and 4, that would be great.

Are you able to make one for a nexus 7? This is for a 11 fx4 non-navi
edit: just realized it'll be bit of a pita to use with the nexus 7 because im not sure how i will turn the screen on with the power button covered. might just have to buy an ipad mini lol

2013 FX 2 w/ NAV
I want to do this mod on my 2013 FX2 w/ Nav...I'll have to wait until the next iPad w/ retina though. Hopefully you'll already have done a few by then. Good job though.

tko_818 This is what I have been imagining off the top of my head as a preliminary. Sorry for the crude Gimp mock up but the 3 black bars surrounding the iPad mini represent fiberglass molded pieces that you slide the mini into from the top. I added an opacity to the iPad mini to show how the Navigation screen stays in place...and yes the iPad mini is a perfect fit . I have a template that I found online with the minis true size and dimensions.
The con is with this setup you would do every thing through blue tooth for a cleaner look...which isn't an issue with the new Ford My Touch w/Navigation. But we all know a hard wired setup will give you the best quality for music.
What's most important is that you don't loose the factory radio/navigation/climate controls as you can easily slide the iPad mini in and out of sight.
What do you think? or
