I don't tow enough to justify buying my own trailer or a Super Duty but wanted a truck that could tow when needed. The F150 does just fine, thank-you-very-much. If you are going to tow at all you should be serious about it so that you do it right, regardless of how much weight.

This setup was around 5600lbs (trailer 2200, car 3400), the U-Haul straps force you to put the car all the way forward on the trailer which I don't prefer but had no issues at all.

5.0, 3.55, 4x4

Exactly! My little ole 4.6 with some mods tows 7000lbs well enough for me!

Diesels are nice but this is 2015 and it's not the end all, be all of towing. These "1/2 ton" trucks are really like 3/4-1 ton trucks of 10-15 years ago whereas trailers have become increasingly lighter over the last 10-15 years ago.

In the long run diesels are more expensive, you pay thousands more up front, way more in fuel and maintenance, and resale isn't the best now. Add in the new EPA mandated DEF tanks and whatnot it's not as appealing as it once was.

Oh brother you guys don't have to start defending owning a f150 instead of a super duty to tow. Amazing how one twit can ruin it for everyone.
I own a f350 diesel lariat crew for work. I like these threads because I would like to buy a travel trailer. I like to see what others are pulling with their 5.0 and I have followed the ecoboost thread As well. I still prefer to drive my 150 over the 350 if I can. If you can pull your trailer comfortably with a 150 why in the hell bother with a super duty?

All I have towed thus far with my 5.0 is an equipment trailer with a 2500gmc on the back. A buddy called and was broken down on the highway. Total weight was up around 9000lbs and it handled it just fine. 4th and 5th with slight rolling ground and a slight head wind. I was surprised with how much time it spent in 5th actually. I don't have a wdh though so i kept the speed down to 60mph for the trip. Even with the wdh the front of the trailer Would have been awful heavy.

When I get a pic of it, I've got a towing setup for you. I just towed my 18 foot equipment trailer with my 1957 International 350 Utility tractor. Total weight of the trailer and tractor was 7400lbs. Truck is a 2014 supercab xlt, 5.0 with 3.55's, rated at 7800lbs of towing. Handled it like a dream, and the tranny stayed nice and cool.

JMHO, but I think the reason you see 5.0 towing threads is because everybody knows the Eco is the best tow motor. And at the same time, we all believe the towing numbers for the 5.0 from Ford are total BS, and would like to see what these trucks can realistically do. I can tell you that my new truck tows it's full capacity better than my 5.4 would tow 2000lbs LESS than it's rated capacity.

I agree the numbers are BS and also that this engine pulls it's rated max far better than prior engines well under max rating. It makes me very happy that I bought the 5.0 when I am cruising down the highway with my 7500lb GN on the back and she just chugs right along. I go right up the hills maintaining speed with no undue effort and running right with all the other trucks from our barn which are mostly diesel dually rigs. Their trailers are heavier with LQ or huge tack set ups but even they were impressed that they don't have to wait for me in the hills.

This is when I picked up my new summer toy. it's currently all apart. Besides hauling the truck home, I haul my race car to the track every weekend

I can definitely say that I am impressed with the 5.0 towing capabilities.
I do have 3.73 as I knew I was going to lift it.
(coming from a F250 superduty 10 years ago with a V10, I was a little skeptical). This was also the first time to try the OEM brake controller...again, I was impressed.
I do plan on getting a medium sized TT in the future, so I know I won't have any issues now.
I DO also have Firestone Ride Ride airbags and had only 25 lbs of air in it to get it level in this tow.
The Chevy was my best friends 1976 Short bed with a big block that he sold on eBay that he sold to a guy in Ohio, (approx. 2 hrs away). He asked me if I could deliver it for him, so I was definitelt curious to see how well my set up with 35" tires actually would tow it. Again, very pleased & extremely impressed! I even used cruise control without a hiccup!
I do NOT need a diesel, nor do I need more than a 1/2 ton for my towing & hauling needs. This truck does exactly what I need it for.
FYI: Truck: 5500 lbs... and the trailer is 2100 lbs.

Now that the thread is cleaned up I have a question to ask? I have a 13 5.0 SCab FX4 3.73. I recently splurged on rims 20x8.5. The rims I bought used look better suited for a M/T tire and got an Awsome quote on some Amp Terrain M/T tires, only two options for 33" tires in a 20" rim 305/55r20 or 275/60r20, I'm running a 2" level and 3" block, I'll be towing quite a bit this summer at maximum 6000 LBs. My question is which tire is better suited it which size would you recommend? I am also stock as for engine and exhaust and not interested in a tuner for warranty purposes

Thanks
