Whatever you decide your going to get a solid truck that is fun, quick, and a joy to drive with either engine!! Eco is fast, but the 5.0 is no slug for sure.

I drove both, liked both. Drove the Eco, had a grin. Drove the 5.0, had a larger grin.

I go the 5.0. The horror stories for the Eco didn't help, but I think they're fewer and fewer as the issues have been resolved.

But, on to the inevitable flamewar!

I drove an EB when I first started looking for a truck and it pretty much wasted me for anything else. All the V8s I tried - Toyota, Dodge, Nissan- all seemed agricultural in comparison. The Ford 5.0 V8 was better but i found you had to rev it a lot more to keep the truck moving.. Not bad but the EB was just that much smoother and easier to keep moving without having to rev the nuts off it. That torque curve really works

You guys are nuts!...their are tons of frickin issues with all motors.....drive a 5.0...then a Boost....their is No Comparison! The Boost is an amazing motor-period. I drove a rental 5.0, ...I thought..."WTH"...theirs an issue with this truck? Where's the low end grunt?! I had to step into to get it moving ...
But,....when I did get on her, she really got up and went!-suprised me...(an F150/Mustang 5.0> debuted for truck duty)
I pull a lot of weight!....so, you hook my trailer up to my Boost....then up to your 5.0...let's see who gets up the 6-7% grade first! Check out You tube....the Ecoboost is an animal.
I have respect for the 5.0 though, I think for the street and performance parts...it would really rock.
Depends on what your going to do with it. Get a extended warranty if your worried about troubles down the road.
Their both....absolutely the BEST 1/2 TONS on the market.

I traded in my 02 F150 4.6 in late Feb on a new 2013 ecoboost. The difference has been night and day. Much better fuel mileage (both had 3.31 rears) and the ecoboost outperforms the 4.6 by far. I pull a 6x12 enclosed trailer and with the Eco I have to look in the mirror to make sure the trailer is behind me. The 4.6 was having to work pulling that trailer with only a 700lb Harley in it. Without a doubt, I'm sold on the ecoboost.

OK folks. The OP asked about durability. The question about how fast the Eco can tow up a grade has nothing AT ALL to do with that question. The Eco is the tow motor and there is no argument about that. Though the Eco will out tow the 5.0l, it does not take a full peddle, high RPMs or liquid Schwartz to get the 5.0 going, so stop already with the whole "one is better than the other" BS. The answer to the OP is both motors have a chance of being a lemon but both are very good motors.

PS. I will ban the first ****** pucker that starts talking catch can.

I had a 97 with the 4.6 and that thing struggled with my pop up camper.

The OP never mentioned the word durability. Your just starting an argument.

I will say that....the 5.0 gas mileage was almost identical to or equal to the Boost for in town driving and highway was pretty amazing as well....suprised the crap out of me! Seriously, if the car rental places are leasing out F150 ' s with the 5.0, what does that say.....
And "Don't call me Francis?!"....(catch can?!!....catch can!!??)

I've said it before and I'll say it agen. If catch cans are so important Ford would have put them on at the factory. Just a mother gimmick to get people's money
