Just bought a 2010 Ford FX 4 and considering to get the truck undercoated to protect it from the Harsh Winters in Northern Ohio.

Couple of questions?

1) Is it necessary?
Read that 09 up trucks don't need it as factory rust proofs every
truck now. Not for sure how true his is or not.

2) What type of undercoating? Do they undercoat trucks with Line-X??

3) What is the going rate of getting this done?

Anyone get their 2010 F150 Undercoated recently??
What type was applied and what the overall benefits observed after it was done?

I can't answer all the questions but there is some controversy over the Pro's and Con's of undercoating. One issue I remember seeing is if moisture was trapped during the process is that it will lead to faster rusting. As for Line-X I don't think that is done as Line-X has to be baked on once applied.

I think it will only add weight to a already very heavy truck.I think they have a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty.I would not do mine.Living in Ohio is a good rust test.I think they spread more salt than any three states combined.Use the money you would have paid for under coating for more frequent under body car washes.

they always con me into doing it when I buy a new vehicle, think its around 3 or 4 hundred bucks, however they dont do above the exhaust because it can start on fire or smell or something so they basically only do 2/3 of the underbody, I think its pretty much a scam, but I usually do it anyway just in case, thats just my opinion though.

?? Baked on line-x ?? I don't think so. Besides if they could bake it on in your bed why couldn't they bake it on underneath? Maybe I am wrong lol. I personally think the undercoat COULD do more harm than good. Like above said frequent underbody wash would be $ better spent.

Had mine undercoated with line-x. I live on a gravel road so the rocks cause damage too. The undercoating cost 300 with a lifetime warranty. With the snow, ice, rocks, and salt I see every year I thought it would be good insurance

Here is some info on Line-X taken off the Linex.com web site:

LINE-X consists of several different products.
All systems utilize a two-component, spray-in-place, 100% solids (no air pollution), thermoplastic polyurethane and polyurea.
There are two separate materials that are precisely dispensed through a high pressure, plural component internal mixing polyurethane spray machine. They are each heated to 120-140 degrees with the temperature maintained through a heated hose. Using high pressure, the materials are mixed internally at a 1:1 ratio at the tip of the spray gun. As the material is applied it takes less than 5 seconds for it to harden. As soon as LINE-X lands on the surface it's dry!
LINE-X products are a fast-cure, multipurpose series of coatings designed for a wide range of retail, commercial, and industrial uses. They exhibit excellent adhesion to most properly prepared surfaces. With its fast cure time it can be sprayed vertically and even overhead without running or dripping. Because the material is sprayed there is a complete seal, making the coating "water tight".

Depends on how long you plan to keep it. I had my prior trucks/cars done, plan on getting the current truck done next spring, waited too long to have it done this winter (mich.weather). I dont get the warranty or do the follow ups, get it cheaper that way, would suspect they don't report the job to the franchise owners. Sales after the fact, have more than paid for the work. Many who looked under the vehicle have commented on how well it looked after 5 or 6 years. About this time is when fuel/brake/power steering etc lines tend to start rusting and that can cost big bucks to replace. IMO it extends the replacement of those line.
Plus, if any work needs to be done it much less of hassle to remove nuts and bolts. I ensure when they do the job everything is sprayed that is safe to spray.

I got an estimate of $350 to spray TST undercoat and rust prohibitor. This is called the silent rider package that is suppose to reduce noise level in cab from road noise. The new trucks are pretty quiet to start out with so I guess it will make it even better. Carries a lifetime warranty with no maintenance to get done like zeibart requires. Is this a god deal? Should I even get it done? I most likely wont get it done until spring as im in northern ohio and the roads are salt covered already. Im torn between getting the undercarriage sprayed or getting a aftermarket back up camera installed for when camping season begins.

I would not get an undercoating. There are issues where it can trap moisture as well as block drainage hole which are built into the vehicle. They claim that undercoating is best used as a sound deadener but has little affect on corrosion control. My 08 has no signs of rust underneath except for some minor areas on the frame (surface rust) and I live in SW PA where winter streets look like salted pretzels. Undercoating could also void the manufacturers corrosion warranty.
