I want to do a good dahscam hardwire install around my mirror. I'd love to see any pics or info from others who have done this. Post pics please!
Thanks

I'm looking for one too...
Its like Die Hard on the streets some times!
Plus I read up that some models have motion sensors and come on when they sense someone around your vehicle...and with multiple cameras, that could be helpful. Unless they steal the truck then all bets are off!

Now for your question about the map light.. use the GY/VT wire for the positive. That will give you the ability to record when the truck is shut off for more than 10 minutes... Of course this is providing that you get a dash cam with the motion sensor. Now also keep in mind that the truck has a battery monitor so lets say you park your truck at the airport parking, there will be many recordings *memory allowance* due to people moving past so the truck may not record beyond a certain point due to the battery charge level.

I would look into the GoPro line to see what they have! Yes they are a little pricey but the quality and durability has a great history. Not only that but they have every possible mount available for many other uses that may be of interest. Get one product and do many different projects!
Dash cams aren't as common in the US as in Russia and that is why it is hit and miss as to getting a good product. That will probably change in the near future with all the crap going on todays highways!!!

-Auto on/off
-Auto record
-auto looping of footage
Does GoPro do any of that? If not, it's not suitable.

Not sure I haven't looked into it just as stated to maybe look into the GoPro series? I know the quality of picture would be there. as you are looking at the features you listed maybe you could find out if they can handle it as I am sure if they can you will be completely satisfied with the product. I know you can buy dash cams from Ebay and many other places that have the features you are looking for but I am not sure on the picture quality and that is the problem. I have seen them from 50 bucks to 600 bucks and they mostly say they do HD video.. but again... I seriously doubt they will provide the same picture or any better than the GoPro. I may be looking into this down the road too! What model did you order?
